White Spots All Over Tank Glass

Please help. It appears that we have some kind of parasite or funk in our tank that is multiplying fast. Our fish have Ich and we've been working on solving that problem with garlic and kick Ich now all of the sudden the white spots have appeared.

Any advice?

thats probably what it is.. if you look really really close, youll see a spiral shape, if so its harmless filter feeder.

We have a 150gallon tank with 3 yellow tangs, clown fish, sail tang, cleaner shrimp and cleaning crew of crabs, snails, you name it. Even two gobies.

After we clean the tank they reappear quickly. So this is normal? How do we control them from taking over the tank?

i dont think you can control them.. they stick on the glass. you can clean the glass every couple of days but they will come right back. it means your tank is healthy. they are good not bad.. they wont take over, but there will eventually be alot..

I too have this problem in my tank. At first, I thought it was ich, but ich on the glass? The white spots are so tiny, that I can't see any type of features on them. The do seem to move around on the glass though. What kind of bug is this? Are there any downsides to these inhabitants or upsides?

If they are mobile tiny white or white-ish dots, they are most likely copepods, are good to have in your tank, and are perfectly normal. If they are stationary, somewhat hard white dots appearing mostly on the glass, they are probably spirobid worms and are not a problem. If you want, just use a scraper and scrape them off. I let mine go on the back glass. Alot of times they will disappear just as quickly as they appeared.

I have the same thing going on in my aquarium and was wondering what they were and why all of a sudden they came from no where, but they don't seem to be causing any problems and the clowns like picking at them off the glass

I have the same problem. I have to keep scraping them off everyday. How do you get rid of them? Is it becaues of water parameters or too much lighting?

+1 It sounds to me like Spirorbid Worms. Perfectly normal in a reef. It's usually a good indicator of nutrient and zooplankton content of the tank as they are filter feeders. They are not a problem and its perfectly normal for them to occur. scrape them off if you dont like them.

+1 on either pods or spirorbid. These things on your glass are not ich and are a very good thing to have, as they provide a natural food source for some fish and show a healthy tank as mentioned above.

The original thread is 9 years old, then when it was bumped up that is 4 1/2 years old. Not only this, we can only speculate on what they were because there is no picture. But my guess would be pods. Pods move around as described in the OP,.

I was just searching this topic and came across this thread, glad it was revived. I found white spots on my glass today for the first time. Thought they could be snail eggs but after reading this thread (and others) it sounds like whatever they are they are a good thing.

My question is where do they come from? I started my tank with dead sand and dead rock, cycled until they became live over a few months and added a few fish. So where do these white spots come from, whatever they are?

I've watched nassarius snails laying eggs on my front glass, so .... yeah, it could be those too!

Nerite snails lay small hard white eggs. Lots and lots and lots of them.

Tiny white flower things on glass

I just noticed these very small white flower looking things on my glass. Tank is 3 months old. Anyone ever seen these or know what they are? I tried looking it with no success. These pics are via a Dino Lite microscope camera.
