White strings on Xenia

So I purchased a small shell that had 4 small frags of xenia on it. One small colony that's wedged against a rock has what looks like threads coming out of it. The come out and retract, it looks as though its trying to pull itself up using these strings? This colony is the only one exhibiting this behavior.

I can't seem to find anything on the net about this. Maybe its a hitchhiker of some sort? I can't really see where this colony is located so not sure if its actually coming from the xenia, or something else is down there.

After doing some more watching and digging on the net(thanks for the suggestions on what it could be), I've come to the conclusion that its not coming from the Xenia(obviously), but coming from a hole just behind the shell. Since the "strings" were the same color as my Xenia, I just assumed it was coming from the Xenia.

Definitely a spaghetti worm!

Guess I just didn't notice it until I covered up his hole with the shell the Xenia's are on.
