White stringy stuff coming off of my crocea's mantle

I have a nice blue crocea clam that I've had for about a year and had some pinching problems with it prolly about two months ago, but everything looks great now (did freshwater dips cleaned it up nicely). Well, for the past week or so, I've noticed a bubbly white stringy stuff coming off the the mantle. It sits partially against the glass and there is a buildup on the glass as well. Both sides seem to be sliming like this... The mantle extension looks great, color is great, just don't know if this is anything to be worried about? Any help is appreciated.

odoprelude,

You can double check for something that might be irratating the clam, but if the clam otherwise looks great, I wouldn't worry too much. I have a few clams that pretty regularly seem to "slime" like that and it never seems to affect them in any negative way. I don't like the looks of it, so I tend to take a turkey baster and suck it up when it becomes noticible.

My gigas and corceas do this if my sump runs low on water and the pump sucks air and blows micro bubbles into the tank. Once I add water and the bubbles clear out the slim will go away in a couple hours.

My squamosa does something like this once and a while as well.
It looks terrible but the clam itself looks excellent.

The only difference is that it seems to come from the bottom of the clam instead of the mantle.

Sure would like to know what it is and what causes it.

When it happens w/ any of my clams it originates from the base of the clam as well. I've asked a lot of people what this is and haven't gotten the question answered. I wish I'd have cornered Daniel Knop at the MACNA conference and asked him!
