I am in the process of starting my first saltwater tank, its currently in the process of cycling. I purchased some live rock from a LFS and there was 1 or 2 small white things with what looked like tentacles on it (I thought whatever it was would die). At the time i only had a 10g tank and i upgraded to a 55g tank. Now there are about 20ish of these same white tentacle looking things and i was wondering if any one could ID them for me .

I'm not an expert (Still new at this) but I have similar growths and spent alot of time on this various websites

Here is what one of mine look like

Everything I have read indicates these are good - explosions tend to happen early or when too many nutrients (overfeeding) but will fade with time and don't hurt anything

Do you have a skimmer going yet during cycling?

No I was going to wait until after cycling to add a skimmer.

And the ones on my rocks seem to have longer tentacles and less "body mass" (i guess you could say). They flow in the water movement.
