Who else has a gigas?

Ok, I just got this guy a week ago from Jim Norris as www.ItankU.com
I will say that I have always wanted one of these. But have always known that they would not be the prettiest clams around. But after seeing the blue spots, and the yellow/green/brown coloration on this one, I knew it was mine all mine!
Not the best picture. I took it with only VHO supplements on a couple hours ago.
And the 9" derasa decided to turn around and has moved both the gigas and the Hippopus around while adjusting itself.
BTW, the cool looking little Hippopus was from Jim as well. Such neat clams, and so hard to find these guys!

So who has a LARGE gigas? Especially one that still has some real color to it. Did it always have that color? Has it faded any? What changed if it did?

Another shot.

Thanks.
My camera is not very good at all for anything up close, let alone for the reef tank. And without the MH on, things are getting sleepy.
The black max, hippo, and gigas were all originally from Jim.
Also two small but growing fast, gold maxs were from Jim as well.

Man, I have 8 clams and still crave MORE MORE MORE!

Already in the works. 180 gallon minimum.
I have also intertained the idea of using a 150 gallon Rubbermaid water trough to house the gigas when it gets HUGE :)

Oh boy will it get HUGE. How many other clams do you measure growth by weight rather then length? lol.
And at only 6" long, I am going to love watching this little guy turn into a gaint.
It will be fun keeping track of growth on this guy, and the amount of CA it will take along with all the other clams.
I am dripping kalk now. And have a CA reactor just sitting. It will be coming online pretty soon now though.

I would still like to know if anyone has a HUGE one that still has good colors. I know Roger at Aquatek here in town has a nice gigas with colors very similiar to mine.

Hey, I have pretty big gigas (10").
When I got it it was pretty much all green, but after about 6 months under 400W iwasakis it has turned a nice yellow with dark green rim around the edge. I would have to say gigas is my all time favorite clam. Hard to explain..I just love them! Basically, you have three color varieties in gigas; green, yellow and sometimes orange.

I happen to love the lemon-yellow ones myself.

I have mine now in a 50 gal sump/refugium with a 400W iwasaki about 18" above the water (the water is only about 12" deep). I also have one squamosa (about 6inches) and another new one (about 7-8", two derasas (about 3 and 4" respectively) and one tiny 1" brounw maxima. THere's PLENTY of room in there now for growth!!!

Putting all the clams into my sump was the best thing I could have done, not only did I free up more real-estate in my tank (for sps), but now I always have a birds-eye view of my clams (sump has little-no surface agitation).

SOrry...pics are in the works...dont have a digital camera, so the wife is going to scan some pic I took this past w?e.

Here are a couple shots from the pair of gigas at Dallas World Aquarium.

Both were about 3 feet plus in length by rough guess. Note, the hippo tang is almost full grown.

WOW!!!! :eek1: :eek1: :eek1: those are amazing!

And what was great to see was that there was some good growth showing on them as well. Good to see an aquarium taking good care of it's inhabitants.
