Who has copperband butterfly?

CBB can be difficult to get to start eating. It took me almost six months to get mine to start eating frozen mysis, clam etc.. luckily at the time there was plenty of aptasia,(the reason I got it) small feather dusters, worms and other critters for it to eat till it aclimented to frozen foods.

Mine was put into my tank to control aiptasia as well. (I had literally thousands!) He took care of them in a couple weeks and then ate frozen foods after that. Think I lucked out for these fish can be very difficult to acclimate and get to eat. I'd say you will take a chance with these fish not adapting to a tank. Just my $.02.

I wasn't going to purchase one unless it was already accepting frozen mysis at the LFS. I've heard too many horror stories about these guys starving after the aptasia or feater dusters are gone.

Thank all for your help. I also got the cbb for aptasia all full in my tank.

Will they eat the big aptasia's?

I hear they eat them but not all the time and when they do they leave bits and pieces that eventually become new aiptasia. Berghia nudis supposedly don't leave anything and are more efficient at eliminating aiptasia but are prone to getting sucked up in PHs and eaten by other inverts. They also only eat aiptasia so once the food source is gone they will starve unless you can find more aiptasia.

Mine took 3 months before it started eating anything. It just picked on the rock for all that time. I would recommend a small one so that your rock/reef is more able to sustain it.

It will eat mysis, angel formula and it "mouths" flake food. I hope to get it on flake in the next few months.

Mine never once touched any aiptasia. I had to buy peppermints for that.

the trick with these fish as with other hard to keep fish is a mature system, overlook ur system interms of maturity and possible problems and move on from there, i had a cbb for 2 years before he die will i was out of town, i believe the trick is to have a very mature system full of potentail foods( small shrimp, tubeworms) and your cbb show start eating frozen food and eventually flake food

I have had a CBB for 1 1/2 months. He was eating brine and small bits of mysis in the vendors tank.I purchased him from Sedar at Phishy Business.Sedar kept him for a month before sending him to me.Although he shows a great deal of interest at feeding time,I have never actually seen him eat anything. He is very active and healthy, and has gained weight in the time I have had him,so he must be eating something.Since he loves to pick at the rocks,I am sure he eats food that falls onto them.I had 2 small aptasia-about an inch- that he showed no interest in,but they suddenly dissappeared 4 days ago.

Sounds like yours will eventually starve to death. When desparately hungry, those that haven't eaten aptasia will usually do so. It takes about 3 months for the demise, providing there were some pods available at the start.

Had tons of aiptasia, CBB ate it all as well as my featherworms. Tank is 5 yrs established and I fed mysis, cyclopeeze, rotifers, and other various goodies 3 times a week. CBB died in about 2 mths after all aiptasia was eaten.
