Who has Powerbrites?

I have the actinic model 4 bulbs setup. Puts out a lot of light I wish they could swivel though no other complaint other then that.

Do they make the colors really pop? Also, how is the light spread? Does it look like 4 spotlights coming down?

Thanks for the response!

These things are awesome. I just bought one. 4 leds, 2 blue and 2 white. I use them for moonlights for my 30 inch deep tank. They actually shimmer like metal halides. I would say the would light that Solona just fine.

i think i would try 2 4 bulb actinic units to suppliment the 150w 10k

3 for a 250
4 for a 400w and so on.

they really make the colors pop!

My lighting setup for my 150 (24" deep) is:

that's an interesting idea as well. Right now I have a 250 watt Phoenix but I'm thinking of getting a different bulb.

I only have room for 2 powerbrite strips in the custom canopy I have planned.

The Phoenix is a bit too blue for my tastes. Should I get 2 of the 4x 10,000K powerbrites?

The first photo is the 4 bulb powerbrite. The second photo is the Hamilton 13 k by itself. The third photo is with both on. The 4th photo is the Hamilton 6500k by itself. The 5 th is with both on, see how the actinic penetrates to the bottom, the tank is 24'' deep and the fixture is 9 inches off the water. The last picture is with two 54 watt T-5 actinic and the powerbrite. Hopes this works first posting pictures. Thanks Sean my youngest son.

Should I get 2 of the 4x 10,000K powerbrites?

I wouldn't, they'll get washed out by the MH.

I got 3 powerbrites (1 power and 2 slaves) when they first came out. The ones I have do have a very small area of coverage (spot light effect), maybe they've improved the design to disperse the light more.

To get the shimmer from them, you need good surface agitation. With your MH that shouldn't be a problem though. I've never used the actinics.

You can save $10 if you use your own 12 volt power supply. That's the only difference in the models. The 12 volt plug is pretty standard, just check the polarity and you should be good

I have 3 Blues on my 24x24x16. The light distribution sucks they spot badly. Get them as high as you can and still be effective in adding blue light. The colors "POP" like crazy. When they are on for a while just flick the switch to the off position and see what you coloring used to look like. It makes my 14k Phoenix look yellow with them off. :)

Damn they are dusty. Ha.

Big thanks to my Dad for making the brackets.

my setup was based off an identical setup I saw at my LFS display tank. The colors of the corals was simply amazing so when I asked what their light set-up was , that is what they showed me ...

Just ordered 3 blue. Can't wait to hook them up. I had a post here a couple of days ago about these lights. Got some bad reviews on the white LED's. Fellow reefer from my hometown club had the same comments, that the white don't do much.

wow, interesting posts everyone. I didn't know that about the white LED's.. although I can't say I'm surprised to hear this.

The 10 k's aren't bad for what they do. I use them for a shimmer effect on my T5 lights. Since you've already got that with your halide, the actinics would be a better choice 4u

What would you guys think if I took out the PC light setup out of a 12g Aquapod and placed 4 Powerbrite strips in it's place.
2 Masters so I can have 1 as actinics only and the other 3 can be another actinic, a 10k & a 50/50, would this work well or do you think this would be too spotlighted since the distance is so limited?

Sorry, pecan2phat can't help...
E.intheC got the Powerbrights today. There are bright!!! I like them. Fish were friking out a little, because they are not used to them. I can't wait to see it a night!
