I was wondering how many of us are using GFO and what method is being used (bag, reactor, canister, etc.). I have had a bit of a Diatom bloom in my tank and I was thinking maybe it could have been avoided with GFO.
I'm not sure why the bloom happened but a few weeks ago I bought 6 green chromis and now everyone of them is dead. I didnt see what happened to the first five and never found them. I had one left and noticed he was rapidly declining yesterday so he was removed from the tank. Considering no other fish has died or even had any kind of problem I'm assuming that the chromis were bad before they reached my tank. I'm not sure if the five missing chromis caused a spike and were the cause of the bloom or not and no I havent tested for Phosphate (i dont have a kit for that but obviously should get one).
I do have a Magnum 350 that I use every so often with diamtoms and carbon (not at the same time). Can this be used for GFO, maybe with a ball valve to slow down the current? And finally, where the heck can I get some GFO around here? I use drsfostersmith.com a lot and also see some on Ebay.
Thanks, Zach.
sorry for the typos, no time to proof.
