Who is in charge of this club.

This club would be my local and it seems like other than the random local poster there are no events or anything of any kind in this club. Is there someone in charge or what's the deal????

I dont think there is a leader. I think it would be great to have a local meeting occasionally. plan some events and just be more organized.

You will have to look at threads from the beginning. We did have the occasional get togethers, but that dropped off a while back. No doubt some of the old timers are still lurking. Always been REAL informal, no membership fees, interact with local reefers, trade some sell some. If you would like to have a get together post something and see if any interest.

Maybe its so bad because of its lack of formality. I mean I looked for a website and all I found was a terrible tripod website listing meets back in 2005. Go to the north central pa club site it's pretty awesome and their boards show alot of activity, meets, etc. Anyone think this club should be "re founded".

I couldn;t do it alone, but here are my thoughts, I don't think id wanna do anything as the Susquehanna reef club because although it seems abandoned, I wouldn't want any previous leadership to stick their heads out and say they are in charge ya know. Plus the susquahanna valley and the north central pa society cover too much of the same ground, I almost feel like we should form a South Eastern Pennsylvania Reef Society, Start By getting a decent website together (for this I volunteer) & start registering members with a very cheap membership fee just enough to pay for the website/ start our first events. What do you think we would cater to this part of the state as well as our close neighbors in Nj, MD

Most people from the area are more active on the Mason Dixon Reef Club, which I believe covers our area and has a website. I just registered and I think there is a meeting this weekend.

hey ganjero, I saw you registered, you should be approved shortly on our website and then you'll have full access to the forums, sponsor areas and chat box. (I actually just had a couple people ask me about website access). And yes....we have a big meeting this Saturday just over the MD border. Our next few meetings will be up around the Harrisburg, Hershey, Lancaster area since that's where the majority of us are from but we do have a lot of members from Allentown all the way down through northern MD. We usually have a lot of food and frag swapping going on. Also lots of raffles since we've acquired some amazing sponsors

This is what I would like to do with the former members of this club but under a new name, I may even und up joining the Mason/Dixon CLub but still feel like we need a more local to this area club.

That's cool! I would say about 3/4 of our members reside around Harrisburg/Hershey/Mechanicsburg/Lancaster. But we still have some meetings in northern MD from time to time to accomodate those that aren't

There is already a club in South Eastern PA (DVRC). The south central part seems to be perpetual overlap. I'm in Reading (Berks county, close to Lancaster county). So I'm in the western edge of DVRC and Eastern edge of Susquehanna and north of Mason Dixon. I always thought NCPARS covered everything else NE PA (Allentown, Scranton, etc over to State College area). I check all the local boards for me since I'm sort of in no-man's land. Not sure if any of this helps you but its nice to hook up with local reefers regardless.

Member since 3/22/08:beer: Over the years club activity has been a roller coaster ride. I've hosted two events at my home and have attended several others. Great time...everytime!

I don't think anyone would be offended or territorial by any means whatsoever if the Susquehanna Reef Club was resurrected by current active members.
After all, how can you step on toes when there are no toes to step on?

I hope to once again fill my beer glass at a Susquehanna Reef Club meeting:thumbsup:

I agree we need this club over the others it's like a middle ground between the two. I really feel like we need to get some formal structure going. I could Start a site. But I think we should collect a small membership fee to fund it/ other club ventures. What you guys think.

Great info, thanks! My new setup is cycling, but I'll try to keep my ears tuned to the MDRC upcoming events here in the near future once serious stocking begins. Glad to hear there's a lot of Susq. Valley action going on with it!

I was active back in the '08 time frame when we had the informal club, and have to humbly defend that there was nothing 'bad' about it. It was a group of about 9-12 of us that would pick someone's house to check out their setup, swap stuff, hang out, have a beer, etc. We never entertained the thought of formal. It was pretty special while it lasted. It wasn't the lack of dues or structure that ended it... I think life events just got in the way for several of us and we all split down our paths.

Formal clubs are great and certainly have a more established place in the hobby. But as mentioned the area's pretty saturated with the monster NCPARS to our north and MDRC basically in our back yard. I guess there's no harm in trying to get an exclusively PA thing going, but when 3/4 MDRC members already live in Hbg/Hsy/Mech/Lanc... where's the beef?

Full disclosure, not currently a member of any club, but would consider it.

The reason this club was/is not formal is because there are plenty of clubs like that to join (which have already been mentioned). If you want to start another one, go ahead. Please contact RC and have your own forums created and don't usurp this one just because you think it's not in use.

This club, like the tides, comes and goes. I see people from time to time, and we'll get together. Most of us know each other's phone #s and private email, or use Facebook to communicate. Some of the more active people have been banned from RC, so this forum doesn't get used as much but the club is as alive as it ever was - serving it's purpose as an informal outlet to enjoy each other's company.

I guess there are some toes out there, huh :rollface:. I knew this was the philosophy of this club even before I moved to the area.

Maybe a meeting at some point to introduce the new comers to the group?

ganjero, it's been a pleasure reading your contributions here and elsewhere on RC. just explaining where some of the bitterness is seeping from. I think all of us here would like to get something churning again, but the OP strolling in here with a sour attitude and unsolicited advice about "cleaning up our mess of a club", like displayed above isn't going to be met with a whole lot of support and excitement. we're a pretty easy going bunch, but we're not going to be marginalized by someone that has yet to reveal his location while asking for our money... that in itself is a bit suspect. My apologies for the rant, just where my concerns are coming from.

Anyway on a lighter note, hopefully we can organize some meets again coming up. When something is put together, it's always an open invite to stop by. :wave:

Yes clearly there are some toes please see my comments in the other thread. I tried to inspire some organization. And that's when people decide to have opinions. Mostly negative.
