Who Knew?

Posted this in the wrong forum earlier. :lmao:

Who knew that two wrasses could live in almost near peace in a 30 gallon tank. Sure the new wrasse now swims all over and the old one just mostly hangs out in darker areas of the tank now. But they're both alive after 3 nights.

Anyway, the story.

The girlfriend says she wants to go to the LFS even though I couldn't go. I had other things to do. So I tell her "dont buy a fish!" First off we already have 5 fish! Secondly, the most likely thing she'd bring back is a puffer. So the day goes on and she comes back and says look what I got! It's a freakin fish. I asked what it was and she couldn't remember. So I'm looking through a doubled up bag and can't tell what it was, the bags blurred the fish. I said "I think it's a hawkfish or maybe a wrasse" She called the LFS that she got it at and asked what it was. The person there said it's a red sand hopper. I'm thinking what the heck is a red sand hopper? I look all over the internet and couldn't figure it out. I look in the bag a few more times and I came to the conclusion that it's probably a wrasse with a butt-ton of fin nip. There's no freakin fish called a red sand hopper on the internet anywhere. We come home later that night and I start acclimating it, it goes into the cup and voila! It's a wrasse! Now I'm really upset that the LFS had no idea what they were selling and sold it to my girlfriend who I told not to buy a fish. Besides we already have a flasher wrasse that I've had for almost 6 months and I love the thing. So I'm thinking great world war 3 is coming.

Now there's a filamented flasher and an unknown

I still have no idea what kind of wrasse it is, but it looks almost identical to a Lineatus Fairy Wrasse. I'm basing this mostly on the color and the blue lines that start as lines and then turn into dots.

This would be really cool if that's what it is considering she paid like $40 for it only. Who knows, the LFS person said s/he's never seen a fish like this before. sure. Probably because it was in a small tank with half it's fins missing.

Whatever. Had to rant a little.

LOL she didn't buy a fish she bought a Red Sand Hopper.

post a pic so maybe we can get an ID on it. There are a lot of Wrasses out there that are not reef safe.

I just find it funny his problem is his GF bought him something for the tank.

Wait until you enter the world of paying cash and hiding receipts LOL

I don't have a problem with her buying things if it can go in the tank. but when she doesn't know compatibility or the fact that we are already overloaded with fish is when I tell her not to buy certain things. she always tries to convince me that we can have a carnation coral or a puffer or a trigger.

i'll get a picture. thing is it barely has any fins. :(

It scared the flasher wrasse out of it's pants. It continually jumped into the remora prefilter or the bubble trap. I'd look in there and he'd look back asking "Why? Why did you let that mean lady put that other fish in here? What did I ever do to you!?" Needless to say after about 5 trips in there he finally got stuck to the skimmer pump. RIP :(

Stupid Red Sand Hopper.....AKA "what the heck is a sand hopper? It's a freakin wrasse"

I'll keep that secretive. Only a few people know. But like I said, probably keeps me out of trouble with the RC higher powers:rolleyes:

If you really want to know shoot me a PM

can you buy me a new digital camera? Mine's jacked and won't turn on now for some reason. I'll try and fix it tonight to take some pictures.

It looks almost identical to the female, but it's a slight shade darker and is starting to get fins like the male. It shows the fins when it dances for me.

dont flasher wrasses start off looking like that and change as they grow from juvi to adult?

maybe you got a juvi flasher

I had a flasher! (RIP) It was a tad smaller than this fish and had completely different stripes and those fins in the front at the bottom were different.

The flasher didn't have that black spot either.

The new sand hopper has the black spot, blue lines on the head that turn into spotted lines donwn it's sides all the way to the tail. The fins on the front at the bottom are long. Almost 3/4 of an inch.
