Who knows which anemone is compatible with Picasso's Perculas. What is the deal with feeding them? I don't want the thing to get huge quickly. LMK

Well a bulb would be good or a blue tip. I dont feed my anemone only a couple of months, the anemones mostly get there energy from photosynthesis.

Any regular anemones that naturally host wild percula will be fine.
The ritteri, sebae (heteractis crispa), S. Gigantea and possibly the Haddon's will host them. The Picassos you have probably were not taken from the wild but were tank raised which means they probably haven't been exposed to anemones. This is a mixed blessing because they may not host for months, possibly even a year or more, but once they do they are probably not going to be all that particular about the anemone they host. If your tank is 50 gallons you will probably not want to get any of the carpet type anemones because they get so large.

I don't believe all of this "tank-bred clowns don't host" stuff...I'd be willing to bet that it's more of an instinct than a learned behavior.

I don't believe it either. It can take a while for them to host but they will eventually.

I really love all the people that post and pretend like they know what they're talking about. I really wish i knew what a blue tip was, i'm going to go and ask my lfs to order me one of those.
Also, recomending a magnifica or gigantea anemone, or sebae even, to someone who has to ask this question is obserd.
Thirdly, Hosting is not something that has to be learned by the parents, a tank-raised clownfish will host in something. I have and have had very many clownfish and they all have hosted anemones. No matter what age. The natural host helps but ime any anemone will be excepted in time, how much time depends on the clown, but never more than 6 months imo.

Your picasso's are not different than any other percula clownfish when it comes to hosting things. Check out the faq. If your aquarium hasn't been setup for at least six months i wouldn't even think about an anemone yet, also they take very stable parameters and high high lighting.
Fwiw clown's can live in aquaria and thrive and even breed w/o anemones so they are definitely not needed.

I never recommended ritteri, carpets or giganteas. I am fully aware of how hard they are to keep. Just noting that they are their natural hosts in the wild. That is it. Saying I am pretending that I think I know what I am talking about is pretty rude.

Well it's not always the store either. My friend owns a pet store, and she can order 3 different things, and get 3 of the same things. She doesn't care, it's of her opinion that her customers need to research on their own, she can't possibly keep track. Sometimes it drives me crazy that she's like that, but maybe if I was running a business it would be the same way.

Yeah, I'm sure it would be hard for her to keep track of all of that, but there should be some responsibility on the end of the collectors and wholesalers to correctly identify things they collect...

How can we be removing things from the sea when we don't even fully understand what they are?!

That would be ideal, but she once told me that if she cared she'd have to quit selling to over half of the people she does, and then she'd be out of business. We try to avoid any conversation on this subject anymore.
