Who likes kitties?

My boyfriend and I went to a large cat sanctuary on the weekend. It was raining out, and it was cold and all round a miserable day. The pictures certainly are not our greatest works, but what the heck, I decided to share some anyways.

All of these pictures were taken through cage bars, and fences, so if there are some blury parts, it's just the camera focusing through the fence.

This tiger is sleeping with a lion. OH THE SCANDAL!!

This bird was infatuated with itself. It wouldn't leave the mirror alone.

This cat did NOT like us at all, he was hissing at us and growling at us.

This is a baby Lynx. He was so darn cute.

And now for the highlight of our trip. These little guys we so playful, and HUNGRY! We got to play with them after the owner of the place saw some of the pictures that we taken of his animals. Unfortunatly, we didn't get any pictures of US with the babies, we each had one and they were a handfull!

I don't know why I like this pictures so much....I think it's because the camera focused on it's nose and wiskers. It's different.

Wonderful shots. Nicely done! Shooting on days like that is certainly quite a bear (no puns intended) but it seems like you did pretty well!

Thanks! They had bears there too actually...They had Grizzly bears, black bears and Kodiac bears, but we didn't get a good shot of anyof them.

They also had buffalow, but they wren't very interesting...

The pics were taken with a Canon 20D, and a 15-55mm lense. Because it was raining out, we didn't want to be changing lenses all the time, so we made do with what we had.

We did get a personal invitation from the owner to come back on a sunny day and take "up close and personal" pictures.

And two free season's passes. All we have to do is call ahead and make sure the owner will be on site and we get to "play" with the large cats. Most of them are tame and are featured in movies. Hopefully I won't get eaten.

Wow, that's a pretty sweet deal! Man, I would love to get in a day's shoot at a place like that. I'll bet there are LOTS of opportunities for some incredible shots.

Famous last words Michelle? :D

Nice photos, I love the big cats and always the snow owl! They are abolsutely the coolest. Thanks for sharing!

Thats an african serval. My wife and I had one that we raised from a kitten. They bond very strongly to one person and say the heck with everyone else. Azi (ours) barely put up with me being around, only cause I would feed him. If he was loving on my wife, and I would walk in the room, I would get the same hiss treatment or get slapped, and with or without claws, his punches would leave a bruise. Great cat none the less.

Somehow that doesn't sound like something I would want in my house :eek2:

Yuck! This place feeds raw chickens. Doug wanted to stay and watch, but I refused to let him have the pleasure of watching that. I'd probably have nightmares about it for a week.

I worked in a pet store (fish dept) in High School and had a regular client that claimed they had a Serval. All I know is they went throught one of the large plastic "Kong" dog toys every week...

Holy cow. Where did you have the Serval? Surely their not legal in residential areas of the US?

Just have to check with your state game and fish department. They are illegal to have in quite a few states, but not here in Alabama. We can't however have any animals that are native to this area (i.e. Bobcats etc).

We moved so we ended up having to get rid of him. We took him to an animal sanctuary where we can still go see him. He's in an awesome enclosure that has a stream going through it and his own cave.
