Who Uses A Ehiem Pump As A Return?

Just looking for some fedback on these pumps as a return,id also be interested in how you have plumbed your set-up to feed the ehiem(i.e bulkhead size from overflows etc.)

I don't. But I've heard they're quiet, and have very little head loss due to hight. They're more expensive than most pumps, but no one ever comes here and says they felt ripped off because they were sold one... unlike Fluvals and many skimmer brands. Fluvals are great canisters by the way... we just typically don't use canisters.

I use a 1262. The pump is run externally. The tank is drilled with a 1 1/2" bulkhead. The sump is drilled with a 1" BH. you have to reduce from 1" down to 3/4" for the input to the pump. Immediately after the pump's output the plumbing is increased from 3/4" to 1" and is pushed back up to the tank.

I have a 1262 as well, it's a great pump. Quiet, reliable, less heat transfer than the mag, no problems at all with it.Pumps up more water than my mag18 did, I had to T it off to put the excess flow back into the sump.

andyb4784 would a 1.5 inch drain be too much for the ehiem to handle?would the sump overflow?they sound like good pumps so far.

Your drain will only drain as much as the pump is pumping into the tank, providing you have an overflow and durso or similar. So there is really no such thing as "too big" only too small>

Don't get a pump too big though, or you will have to return some to the sump to keep you flow at an appropriate level through the sump, usually 8X or so. You will waste energy with too big a pump and have to T off like I did.

I use one. They are underrated for what they pump. They are very very very strong and very very high quality. They last forever! And they are also expensive. I don't mind paying top dollar for lasting pumps, though. They are rather large though.

Can the be used internally(In sump) or externally only?it'll have to handle 4ft head and id like to gravity feed a deltec ap702 using this pump.circulation will come by tunze or vortecs so i do not need much flow through my sump.
