My LFS recamends to use Rod's Food because it feeds every thing in the reef. Personaly it looks like a lot of food goes to waste.

Also I have a 20g aquarium with 40lbs live sand and 46lbs live rock and I am wanting to put a Mandarin Goby in there. But I know that I do not have enough copepods in my aquarium and I want to know how to get it on frozen or different food sorce.

I thought it was awful at first but after a couple feedings I really noticed the corals respond to it.
I like it now.

Just found the ingredients.
Ingredients Shrimp, Scallop, Oyster, Clam, Squid, Octopus, Brine, Krill, Mysis, Grouper (or perch), Red Nori, green Nori, Broccoli, carrot, Frozen red plankton, Golden pearl (7 sizes), DTs Oyster eggs, Selco, Fresh hatched brine, Freshly harvested rotifers,

So is it a gel? A goo? A paste?

It's frozen food. It's almost like a sheet, about .25" to .5" thick.
Don't put a mandarin goby in a 20 gl tank. Even if it is eating frozen at the lfs it won't survive at home w/o some pods. A 20 full of pods would probably keep the mandarin alive week at most. Someone will come on here and say they have had one for yrs in a 20 gl tank, but 99% of them will die in less than 100 gallons. Don't buy that fish and torture it to death in a tank way too small.

My tank loves the stuff and it gets some everyday. It's very clean you don't rinse it off first. I had no problem with nitrates or phosphates. Highly recommended.

i use it and its the only thing my anthia eats...all my fish go nuts over it and ive noticed improved polyp extension since using it....the big sheet the he sells lasts quite a long time...i use it everyday and it lasts a good month or so

I feed it and it's all I feed.

I've been feeding it for three months.

I have
SPS
LPS
Softies
Maxima Clam
Inverts
Green Barred Gobie
Six Line Wrasse
Maroon Clown
Fuzzy Dwarf Lion

Everyone eats Rods and I feed nothing else. Everyone is fat and sassy.

Well, everyone in the Chicago area uses it. Well, ok, most of us! I feed it 3-4 times a week, PE MYSIS once or twice a week, Spectrum pellets twice a week, and nori sheets three times.

We've been feeding Rod's for quite some time and it's a staple for us. As someone aptly noted, a little of it does go a long way, so use it sparingly.

As far as the mandarin, I wouldn't suggest adding one to a tank unless it's at least 6-8 months old. Sometimes mandarins will take to eating frozen or other forms of food, but it's not something you can count on. If you have a fuge, there are some pods commercially available from the Phyto II people that actually have pods that will multiply. That could seed the tank for you and give you a jump start. Also Reef Nutrition sells live Tigger Pods that you can use for the sake of feeding a Mandarin short term if need be. Just be aware that the Tigger Pods are not what you want if you're just looking to seed the tank and get a jump start on your pod population. Another suggestion to get your tank seeded for pods is just to get some cheato from someone's fuge. Most reefers have that growing and are throwing it away to prune it.

Hope that helps!

I know someone who has a "fat" mandarin (over 2 years old) in a 30g with a limited amount of rock and no fuge, it lives almost solely on Rod's food. May not work for everyone, but pretty impressive.

I feed my tank exclusively Rod's food but will be switching to a new product......................

Rod's Coral Only Blend! Been using it in my Zeroedge and my corals look fantastic.

I can't even begin to say enough good things about Rod's food. I've found the key to using it so that none is wasted is to chum up the water a little bit before feeding the rest. It lets the corals know it's in there and they begin to extend their polyps, once I see the PE I feed hard. I use Rod's every day and often more than once a day, I'm a chronic over feeder and my fish and corals thank me for it :) Including my two mandarins that both feast on the stuff....(I have a pack and a half a month habit)

You should also know that there are new flavors now as well.
A herbivore diet which is the same as the original with more greens and a coral diet which is great for frag tanks and nano's with small fish.

A fish only and a predator diet are on the way.

Rods food is what i use also. I use the regular blend, and the herbivore blend. And use a sheet of algae and thats all i feed.

I have been using it for about a year now, very pleased with it.

A little bit goes a long way, here is the size of it.
