Who would be good for ORCA?

Elections are very close. Nominations are coming up this month.

Who do you think would be exceptional for the various positions in our club?

I'm not saying the people in office now are no good, but I think some of them have been on the board for a long time and might like to sit back and just be a member for a while.

I also think that there are lots of people that would be well suited for the jobs, but may not be confident to step forward and volunteer. I wanted to start this thread to see who other members think would be good officers. Sometimes people need a little nudge.

I'll call out a few people right now.

David.....this guy is highly motivated, and very active. He's putting together some DIY workshops his self and working to make them a part of ORCAs regular activities. I'd like to see this guy on the team for sure. I know he's a very busy guy. I think we can talk him into something if he were nominated.

Jason....Another outspoken guy.....he's done great with frag director and seems to have great energy and a passion for the club. I'd definately like to see him on the team.

Christie......She has great ideas, and would be another fantastic addition. Of course I'd love to see you in any office. Would you be interested in secretary, tresurer....another go at activities?

Seth......are you old enough to hold office yet? He definitely has the drive to do great things. Even if you aren't officially an officer, I'm sure you'll be contributing to the club for sure.

Ross......he's all over the ORCA forums lending advise and going over to other members houses and new people's places to lend a hand.......Do you know anything about website admin? Maybe he'd help with the newsletter....definitely a candidate for mentor!

Craig.....very active club member with experience on the board. I think you'd make a great public affairs guy, pres, VP, or mentor as well as an excellent frag director.

Matt.....we have to find some way to keep you around....you've done a fantastic job as prez and i'd like to see you there again....but if you don't want to be prez...you deserve some time to relax.....I'm still nominating you for everything else.

Who else.....I definitely don't know everyone...these are just a few that I see every meeting that stand out. I'm sure there's plenty more.

Also....who would LIKE to be on the board or a director next year? what position?

Actually, this board is comprised primarily of all new board members(Matt was Mentroing the year before and Mac was PR director...I believe those are the only two that returned for a second year on the board).

I thought about running for membership director, but with me going back to school, Brannon still traveling, and my lack of a consistent baby sitter, I decided against it.

Well I'm sure an assistant or co-membership director would more suit you....or assistant or co-secretary....by the sound of the job description according to the by-laws.....the secretary spot seems like it would benefit from an extra person. Or maybe some else in the club could help you find a good baby sitter for one saturday a month.

I'd put your name in the hat anyway....something is better than nothing. And even if you weren't membership director, I'm sure your help would be much appreciated.

I agree....Matt would be an outstanding activities director. ;)

as far as the current board.....I know jonathan and pam have been around for a while, and mac. I'm not trying to take their jobs away. I'm merely trying to spark a little interest. If the current board wants to serve another term....we'll nominate them all again. I'd just like to see some fresh people come forward so that the current board doesn't feel like they HAVE to go another term.

Besides.....we won't have any fun voting if there's no-one to vote for :-D

Of course it's good to have fresh blood. I was just mentioning that. I sometimes forget about Jon Hart's position being a voted one because he has been web guy for ORCA for so long:)... Jon has really only stayed on the board this long because noone with web development skills has offered their help. He has been around almost as long(if not as long) as the ORCA website has been up:). I'm sure if someone with internet skills stepped up, Jon would definitely help them get acclimated to the position. Unfortunately, I know a lot about IT, but nothing about web development.

That's right, I think Pam was Secretary last year, now that you mention it. And I meant no disrespect. I think that what you're doing by getting people involved and helping fill positions with more candidates is a great benefit to the club.

Speaking of positions, are minutes of our meetings still taking place? On the website, we are backlogged to April...no June, July(SRC), August, or board(if any occurred) meetings since.

I'd be interested in another position but I also have to consider I am taking Senior Design for my comp engineering major and it is a 2 semester commitment to design, build and finish a working prototype of a project by April in order to get my degree.

I'm told its very time consuming so I'm unsure if taking an office unless it was a relaxed one would be fair to those who would want to run.

If you asked nicely you might talk Kevin into helping out with the web stuff he seems to enjoy a bit of that as a hobby and he and I both revamped the forums at one of your local LFS. I find working on that stuff to be relaxing if it all goes right and you don't break anything and kill the website lol. Ahh the joys of web dev;p

This thread is on ORCAs website as well.

Craig......would you be interested in the internet portion of the club? I'm sure Johnathan would give you a crash course....and i know John Young was helping with the site during SRC. I have a few ideas about how we could make the ORCA site a little better. I'd nominate you for sure.

It was mentioned that David would make a great VP, and that becca(cowboyswife) would make a good secretary. It was also mentioned that I'd make a good frag director(would I still be allowed to bring frags? that might be a conflict of interest.), and that Jason would make a good mentor or another ranking position since he is outspoken and knowledgable. Seth was also mentioned. I think he'd be a great newsletter guy.

I was also looking at the meeting minutes and noticed that they are way behind. I was told that SRC took a big toll on the board, and some things fell through the cracks. The Secretary position seems to have a real big workload according to the by-laws. Hopefully we'll have more than one person willing to step up to the plate for secretary...that way, there's an extra person to help out with that stuff.

Chrisstie.......maybe if you think you'll be too busy to take a position on the borad, you might volunteer to help out next year with one or more of the spots?

Who else stands out? Who gets around to the LFSs that would make a good public relations rep? I think David might fit that bill as well.......I know he stops in at several during the work week.

Who WANTS to be on the board? Heck....even if you aren't that knowledgable....so long as you have the motivation, and will to help the club move foreward....there is a 3 month overlap in the new and old board change over. I'm sure the old board will be able to teach you the ins and outs, and they would certainly be willing to mentor you during your term in office.

SPEAK UP :-D
