Why are my Acans not "puffy"

I have an acan colony that seems to be doing well. Its color has been constantly improving under my lighting vs. the LFS tank it was in, it reacts to food in the tank and just overall looks nice. I'm just wondering why it's not really puffed up like a lot of acan pics I'm seeing. It wasn't at the LFS either. Are there just some that sit flatter than others?

It came from VHO light and has been under metal halide for about a month. I'm using 250w with the acan down about 10"

what kind of acan? some puff up more than others. Lords puff more than echinatas.

Could be too much flow in that location. Preventing the tissue from expanding?

Just a guess.

there isn't too much flow where they are in the tank. I'd call it moderate and indirect. I have some frogspawn right below it (not close enough to touch) and it stays puffy and gently blows, indicating to me that it's not crazy in there.

i'm not entirely sure what kind of acan it is. I bought it from my LFS simply labled "acan" on the glass. I didn't ask specifics and the guy that would give them wasn't in at the time. It was originally priced at $50 for this colony, if that helps any. Color under normal lighting is red/purple with bright red centers that really show up in the actinic pic I'm about to post. Polyps are smaller than some other acans I've seen, maybe dime sized?

Acan lords typically get puffy. Yours is likely a acan echinata. They will extend feeding arms, but the flesh itself stays pretty much the same shape/size at all times.

I haven't seen any real feeding arm extension from these. I do see little ones that stay within the boundaries of the polyp.

I did forget to mention, I have noticed some growth since I added this to the tank. So, call it an acan echinata and don't worry, right?

Yes, everything you say is normal. If it's coloring up a bit and growing, all is definitely well.

Agreed, especially with that pic I belive that you have a nice A. echinata there!

I was happy with it, especially when I got it and the favites colony behind it for all of $15! We're talking total here, not each. they were listed for $50 each but I helped move some stuff at the LFS (tanks, lots of live sand and salt, etc) and was pleasantly surprised with the price I got in return. That's not bad for only 30mins of work that I was going to do for a simple thank you.
