Why does this look so odd? Any ideas?

I am waiting for the sand to settle, but after 3 hours and busted fingertips, I might have something I like. Hopefully I like it by tomorrow.

I appreciate all the advice. I did my best!

I would take rock from the sides and make the middle higher. This will IMO look better, add more flow, and make the glass easier to clean.

looks fine to me. Like everyone has said, move some from the side and put it on the top somewhere to make it easier to clean.

Update... I took it off the glass as much as I could. Not much depth to work with in a 55gal. I think it looks better, not like a wall anymore. tips are still welcome!
I got my first fish!

Psst....
I see your Bleen Chromis!!!
What a great tenant! Good choice, no eviction necessary!

BTW...its looking good! I'm glad you decided to take the rocks away from the glass! I learned the hard way what happens when you leave rocks leaning up against the side and front of glass! EEWWWW!!! What a mess I had! Can't wait to see more pics!

very nice with that one. I like it. Wish i could figure out what to do with mine :S

Nice Tank. Its nice. I got some great advice from here and they all told me to keep it away from the glass. Try and not make it look like a wall. different height. Took many many trial and error for me haha

Thanks again for all the great advice everyone. Im glad it looks better

looks a bit stretched out. You may want to take the pieces touching the side glass and stack them on the pieces closer to the center.

+1 if you take the pieces off the sides and put them on top the big piece in the middle I think you could have some cool cave-like areas for fish to cruise through and a semi shaded area for ricordeas or chalice or anything else you find that doesn't like intense lights

Good job. It doesnt always take that long to figure out the rock work in your tank, but I bet you will enjoy more now after spending some time and busted up fingers on it. I like how it looks now and it looks like you will have plenty of space for coral. Plus the caves are usually enjoyed by fish. I dont think you need more rock. I agree with the others that say that you can have to much rock.you can easily turn a 55 gallon into a 5 or 10 gallon. Anyways after all of my rambling I think you did very good.

if you are going sps that would be a good set up. Sps need good amount of space to grow and eventually when its all filled up it will look nice. You have alot of room for corals with your current setup imo.
