Why I Iove this board....

So I'm a newbie. I have a 58 corner and just a cleaning crew, 2 fat a%@ clowns, and 4 sea anemones. I want stunning colors and limited stock...plenty of coral. I was the 1 posting about 1 wow fish...will send pics when I get it.

So I'm at a fish store an hour away and see 3 flame scallops. I was in awe....for me, it was 1 of the craziest things I've seen in a tank. So, I break out the trusty IPhone , go to this site and search....in 2 min I knew they were tough and had a short lifespan.

The owner of the store made it seem like they were a piece of cake...He didn't know I had the reef busters on my side...

Good call... even if you had 20 years under your belt ,know how to control nutrients, and feed heavy, they are still a hard animal to keep alive in aquarium.

Yes I did join in 2002. I had a 90 gallon reef tank for a year or so before I had to move. I've had nothing since and wanted to get back in the hobby about a month or so ago.

At 53 years old going back 14 years and trying to remember things isnt easy. I'm definitely a noob.

Same here. My first tank was back in the 90's. I didn't get back into it for 12 years, and things have certainly changed. This board has been very helpful.

I'm about 14 months into the hobby and I owe literally all of my success to these boards, so I try to give back as much as my knowledge will allow.

Everything anyone from a LFS tells me gets checked out on here. It's sad to say that 50% of what they say gets a majority verdict against it in here. I do try to differentiate between absolute fact and individual experience (which can differ significantly), but in general, you'll always get enough info on here to make your own informed decision. Well done reef central.... I'd be lost without you.

P.S I have found one chap at a particular LFS who I trust, mainly because he has talked me out of buying a couple of things and generally spends time talking me through what he does. I travel the extra 20 mins to him over the other 3 I can chose from.

I've got a habit of googling any and everything of interest prior to purchase.
It's sad that some LFS have unknowledgeable employees giving opinions or suggestions that in turn gives LFS such a bad rap, regardless of their intentions...
I've have certainly had this happen more than once in the past and not that long ago *_* I recently made a purchase "assuming" I knew the incorrect opinion of the employee was right when in fact it was total opposite.
Heck, I had the owner of a LFS flat out lie to me about him having the "newest" version of Radion!
With that said, we have amazing LFS in the Atlanta metro area and I support them whenever possible. I have the upmost respect for several employees at the LFS frequented, even when I'm told "I don't know or risky"...

I was perplexed when I was at my LFS and wanted to pick something up on impulse. I told the guy that I wanted to search it out really quick and he told me, "don't trust those forums...they're loaded with bad advice". I haven't returned since.

Good for you for searching info out first. Can't wait to follow your progress!
