i aslo dont know if my KH is good or not.. i did the test with a KH TEST aqaurium phrmaceuticals, inc. its a light green box.. with the #59 top right..if that helps. it took 14 drops for it to turn yellow.. is that good?

SRTN that will turn into RTN if you do not find the cause soon.

Some common water causes

Phosphates
Alkalinity swing
Salinity swing

The lack of PE and the above problem, suggests poor water quality.

Lack of flow in that area?
What have you done lately, has there been any changes?
How old is the frag?
Params?

Sometimes they are just time bombs that go off.
If it is the only one, consider fragging and cutting your losses.

i was just reading your thread, i think.

kh carbonate hardness.. alk.

tank specs.
i have a really high calcium over 500... it wont go down and ph is 8.2, nitrate 0, nitrite,0 ammonia 0, the other specs in signature. i only have a RO unit no di i change the filters every 2-3 months the tds reads 4-7...salinity 1.022??the last two dig are 22..
MH are on 8 hrs

let me know if i missed any info

the frag is a few months old, the salinity is always the same no matter what.. i have a huge tank volume.. some times my skimmer cup will over flow back into the tank but that has been happening from day 1.. i dump it every day. the tank has been running since march
heres a full tank shot

the frag that is rtn'd is on the ugly side of the tank.

Hi mathu...its reefermadnesss from the other forum.

If your calcium is 500 and your not sure about your alkalinity then that could be the problem...your out of balance. If you think all other params are fine you need to test your alk. If its out of wack slowly adjust it.

SPS are very sensitive to alk swings...more so then calcium. Stability is key for stonies and swings in alk will cause tissue recession like you are seeing.

i have tested my alk but the test makes no sense to me..i think its at 7 or 14..? the test said every drop i add is eqaul to 1" dkh.i added 14 drops .im not sure what this means..am i not reading the test right?

Sounds like you are not reading it right. Were you using a different test kit before.

Do you still have the paper directions from in the box? read them cafefully. The units may be in dkh or meq/l or PPM.
