Why no aglae in sump?

I'm having a problem with algae in my display tank. But to my surprise there is not a trace of it in my sump. It gets 12 hours of light per day and my chaeto is growing well, but it is under the tank behind closed doors. Is this the reason why no algae is growing in the sump?

Very common... Not as many surfaces for it to cling too/grow on...No rocks leaching phosphates to feed off of.. Different light spectrums...and a few other reasons...

And very bad luck to ask why you don't have algae somewhere...;)

Thankyou

Thanks for confirming what I kind of suspected. I think my only solution is to put the display tank where the sump is and put the sump on display.

Or has this whole algae thing affected my brain.

I will post pics after I make the change:idea:

I would guess your cheato is doing its job. Therefore, like most tanks, you're going through algae phases in your DT where it doesn't compete as directly with the cheato.

My cheato though has acted as nothing but a place for either cyano or GHA to cling to in the sump. It has stayed green, but barely grows as the GHA out competes it. So congrats on having a cheato growing sump without the fuss.

Probably harvested over a pound of GHA yesterday just from my sump.
