Why so many for sale threads?

It looks to me as if this forum is turning into a for sale forum lately. I mean, there does always seem to be something for sale, but never in this volume.

Is there another way to go about this? Perhaps if you have several things listed for sale, post them all in one thread. Or post links to items that you list in the FOR SALE FORUMS if you prefer several thread each selling one item.

I know that you may not want to have a cluttered thread, but I prefer 1 cluttered thread than a forum FULL of for sale items.

I understand that people need to get rid of things and it is awesome that good deals are being offered to fellow reefers... but come on, let's keep it neat!

Thoughts, comments?

This is not meant to offend anybody, just to create a less cluttered forum.

I might add that I almost called this thread "C-Sea needs another garage sale..."!

I myself sell things from time to time, but I have never seen the forum so full of for sale threads!

I don't see a problem as there are days where this forum gets very little activity. Granted, as a general rule of thumb its nice to see multiple items listed in one post. However, other than the RC terms of service, I don't think there should be any additional restrictions on how people post.

Personally, I do not post FS items in the general forum unless I am willing to ship. No matter how many times you post 'Local Sale Only' you get 100 PMs asking if you will ship.

I definitely understand your view, I was just a little blown away when I got home tonight and the first page was 90% sale threads.

Not a big deal at all, I was simply stating an observation and elaborating on it.

I do like to see lots of activity in the forum though :)

Sorry if my posting ethics disrupted your evening viewing pleasures.

I am liquidating ALL of my equipment and passing along these deals
to the local Cleveland area FIRST and ONLY before other ventures are pursued. I am wishing to pass along this equipment to the folks In the Cleveland area that I have dealt with in this hobby for the past few years.

I am sure that people that have dealt with me have Happily left with more bargains than what they originally came for such as FREE items be it Coral or Dry Goods just to get this stuff cleared out of my house.

and of course everything has a negotiable price and is in no way a means of being a profitable adventure for me. Once this stuff is gone So am I. I would hope that anything I am selling is at least half price of what you can get it for anywhere else

I have also found that posting items separately makes it easier for
the public to hash through long winded post and is more effective
at getting rid of all this equipment out of my house.

it may seem that I have allot of stuff but Most of you would agree that you can collect allot of hardware over the years in this hobby.
just take a quick physical inventory of your closet or basement.

and the post are surely to disapear quickly by new post of everyone looking for Southdown substrate.

if these post disturb any of you let me know (PM me) and i will take it elsewhere .

once again Thank You for your limited time

I agree with serpentman, I look forward to seeing new posts on here and deals that may come. I second the post away comment.

I think active sales cooperation between local reef enthusiasts is a good thing. I successfully sold a dual 175 MH and a dual 96w PC and upgraded to 3 aqua medic ocean light 250's inside a week. Thanks Craig, Dan, and Josh. Couldn't have done it without this site. Glad to pass along a good deal.

That, and this time of year we discover all of the tanks the boys think we didn't know they were hiding......no, an empty used 30 gallon tank does not make a good Valentine's Day present.....Make sure you empty your pockets after any unapproved trips to SC so we don't find the receipts while doing laundry......I'm just saying....

sorry smmscott.....;)

This thread was certainly not meant to say that there was anything wrong with selling things on here.

I have recieved the reply to this post that I was expecting and I'm fine with it. What the heck... maybe I'll even add a few things to the mix sometime soon ;)

Old Crusty... you certainly haven't bothered me, but I was curious as to why you posted things separately! Now I know! Thanks.

I know we have a "garage sale" as a club once a year. Perhaps it would be a good idea to have 2 each year, club related or not. I'm more likely to buy several things at once if I don't have to drive all of Northern Ohio collecting them.

Keep posting awesome stuff for sale!

My only issue with it is that they don't wait until I'm on a conference call and can check the forums. I've missed a couple of good deals!

Yea, it would be nice if we could have "sub-forums", but it's not like there are 100 posts a day on here that other information would get lost.

i hear you. Have you seen how quick stuff can go on the used forums. People must hawk that all day.

When I was first getting into the hobby and working on my second tank, I used to look at the used forum quite regularly :). I recieved some killer deals as part of that.

One deal I got, I used as an anniversary present for my parents.
I was able to get a 200 gallon setup that included everything needed: 200 lbs. of LR, sand, skimmer, sump, lights, stand, etc. for just $500. ;) Granted... the tank has a few scratches on it and the skimmer was horrible, it's still a steal of a deal!

If I were in the business of reselling stuff, I do believe I could make a living out of hawking that forum and reselling. Granted, I don't have a family support and I would take a cut in my yearly income... but I could survive!

Sometimes there a some pretty cool things for sale!
