Why? Why? Why?

They are larger, don't get along well in groups, and hence more expensive to ship wild caught and/or grow out in captivity.

fwiw: To feel better about the price, compare them to the uncommon clowns and they will seem free in comparison.

in my opinion a maroon clown is the same price as all the other clowns i paid 43 for my female and 49 for my male at an overpriced store i often see them for 29 but those are tank raised captive bred fish just happen to be juveniles
good luck with your maroons mine are funny fish that dont leave their anemone but maybee twice a week nicest thing about a maroon is that their natural host is the bubble tip anem and those are cheap and easy to find
the natural host for my true perculas is going to cost like 80 bucks also i see piccaso and onyx clowns and snowflakes all the time for well over 100 bucks those are the expensive clowns
