What size is the tank? I agree with the above statement. It is hit or miss with housing more than 2 clowns. Although I have seen a lot of 3 clown systems lately.

It depends on what you're doing with your tank.
It depends on what size tank you've got.
It depends on what the actual bottom width and depth of your tank is. You can get a 125 gallon tank that is 72"long or you can get one that is 48" long.
Some people go BB with high flow.
Some people prefer to go DSB and that requires enough sand to cover your tank to 3 to 4 inches deep.
Average recommendations that I have seen for a tank are at least 1 pound of LR per gallon, preferably 1.25 pounds.
