doing the construction on a custom in wall... the spot that was orginally there is 46 inches, i could cut to make it the standard 48 inches, but it would be so much easier not too.. this may sound dumb, but are all tanks 48 inches. is it measured from the glass to glass, or the rim to rim? what are the chances of me finding a tank without have to custom order or build one.. thanks

a 46" rectangular tank? Probably not that great. I'd either settle on getting a custom or bother to open the hole up some.

COmmon to alter the distance between wall studs: do an H shaped bracing the same as you do when inserting an electrical socket. If your bed-and-taping is a bit iffy, hire that part done or make it into cabinetry by using paneling or texture, which can hide a multitude of sins.

alter the wall or just build a better frame around the tank and set the tank behind the wall. If you have a "fish room" built behind the tank you would be able to do this. If not, alter the wall...:)
