Will a ATI 36" cover my tank?

I want to purchase a 36" ATI 8 bulb 39 watt from a local seller and would like to know if this would cover my 36x36x30 cube. I keep SPS up top and clams and carpet nems on the bottom with LPS and softies inbetween.

not sure if this light will spread front to back of tank and punch all the way down. Any help would be appreciated

I think so............I was really wanting it for my 36x36x27.I had a ati 4 bulb sunpower over a tank 18 wide and par was great front to back.It was 21 tall but fixture 8 inches off water and it had high enough numbers to keep clam in sand imo.

imo i would call ATI North America and ask them...
they're the most qualified to get an accurate answer.... ;)

36" x 36" cardboard, light 34" off the ground.....

I just plugged them in and snapped the picture so it will get much brighter as well..... The splash lens could use a cleaning too I just get paranoid about scratching it. LOL

I have a 6x80 on a 72x36x28 and with the light hung 12" awl, I get par readings of 100 in the corners and 110 at the glass in the front and the back. I think it will be more than enough.

well spoke to an ATI rep and they advised me to purchase the 10 bulb unit to cover the 36x36. That sux I really dont feel like paying the $1400 price tag

What 10 bulb unit? As far as I know they don't make a 10 bulb anymore and besides that would be way too much light. Like I said I have a 6x80w sunpower over my 72x36x28 and can grow everything in my tank. I would contact David @ reefgeeks and talk to him.

can't imagine an extra two lamps would be worth another $1000......
at this point I'd buy Doug's fixture and use the extra cash for more corals... ;)

I agree. :lol2:

I think I may have to risk shipping it at this point just so I can order my next tank. LOL.....

I got a text from him asking about the spectrum, I always liked mine around 12-14k and I think it's about there:

If you're used to an even bluer color, just toss some more ATI Blue+'s into there and you'll be good to go.....

I don't remember the exact mix of spare bulbs I have but I believe they were mostly the BLUE+ and Aquablue Special (12k). I also have a box of a few used bulbs (about 10 months on them) that you can play with the color even further to figure out a combo that you would like.

I think the current combo is (3 or 4) ATI Blue+, (1) KZ fiji purple, (1 or 2) Aquablue Special, (1) UV Actinic White, (1) ATI Actinic 03.

It will cover fine. Unless you plan on growing sps at water level in the front and back. Center the light over the tank, the fixture is 17" wide, have your high light corals i. The middle 24 inches. That leaves 6 inches in front and 6 inches in rear of tank that won't be crazy high par values. The rest of the tank is going to ne bright enough you have to be careful with new corals. I have an 8 bulb ati fixture over a 24*24 tank. I can grow acros on the front glass at water level, with fixture only 6 inches above water level. The higher the fixture is, the more the spread. Put fixture 12-14 above water, spread would be 36" wide at water level, or damned near.

Here is what I am lighting

Sorry for bad pics done with Iphone

Overflow in the middle and Liverock built around it. I do have some SPS towards the top of tower

So will it cover?

if you are lighting that tank successfully with a 24" MH Sfiligoi, there's no way you won't be successful with a 36"W 8 lamp ATI PowerModule....
Plus, you'll love the ability to play around with the color spectrum due to your ability to change out individual lamps...

and for $375 WITH lamps, with all due respect, I think you may be overthinking this a bit..... :p

GET 2 AI SOLS jk/ saw your fs thread :)

i think you would be fine with this fixture on your cube tank worse case you could add in some leds aimed at the corners. Have had that fixture before myself and know it packs a punch and love the look personally. GO FOR IT!!!

I would honestly stick to the 8 bulb. It will be more than satisfaction imo. Of course the ATI rep is going to tell you to go with the 10 bulb. More money to them. You will only be paying a fraction on the price with Doug. Also those 2 extra bulbs will be an extra $50 later on when replacing them. Just food for thought.

Nothing to be sorry about, you never said you wanted it.... LOL

I would agree with cubbies that I dunno if the extra money was worth it but its not my money.... I'm sure you'll love it either way.... Did you get a dimmable sunpower model or LED powermodule or what model? I'm not seeing a ten bulb model on ATI's site anymore, unless RG had a ten bulb model still on the shelf? Reef Geek is a good company, that's where I got my replacement ballasts from actually....
