will a clam "move around"

I just bought my first clam - seems to be doing fine after a couple of weeks. I placed it on a flat horizontal rock so it can attach itself. My question is: can/will a clam move itself around or will they simply attach to the rock where they are placed? Thanks!

Yes they can move, sorta. They cant controol to much where they go, but they can move. If they are unhappy they can expell a bunch of water and move a little bit. When they are sitting in the sand they can rotate and even slowy work their way across the sand bed. Has anyone else noticed that clams allways some how end up all grouped togheter? When on a rock all they can do is fall of the rock. Once they attach they cant move any more obviously.

im new to clams, but i have seen mine move in the sand about an inch. which is funny cause he is attached to a rock, or should i say 2 rocks. i figured he is happy where he moved, so i left him alone. as to a group in the sand getting closer together, i can see that for propagation purposes in spawning. mountain dew's pics of his clams spawning drew me to that conclusion.
