Will a clown fish take up a FAKE anemone?

We have a male clown that is hosting in a medium sized clam,is this normal? We have 3 anenomes he could choose from.The clam is alive & about 9 inches long. It doesn't seem to mind. The clown,Clark,even tries to feed it. His girl,Kent,has claimed another anenome & chases him away. Has anyone else experienced this & if so how did it work long term? Thanks. P.S. this is my 1st post so I hope I put it in the right spot. LOL.

I had a tomato clown and a long-tentacled anemone. The clown completely ignored the anemone. This went on for at least 6 months. So, since I wanted a clown to host in the anemone, I went to the LFS and saw a pair of ocellaris hosting in a rubber anemone. I figured if they liked that, they would love a real anemone, so I bought them. I took them home, and within an hour, they were hosting in the anemone, and the Tomato could care less.

All was well for about 4 months, the 2 ocellaris in the anemone, the tomato caring not at all. Then one day, out of the clear blue, the tomato decided it wanted the anemone, and it kicked out the 2 ocellaris and banished them to the upper corner of the tank. It would never let them out of the corner, plus it would attack my hand everytime I put it in the tank. So, I caught the tomato and took him to the LFS. The ocellaris returned to the anemone and all lived happily everafter.

Ive seen ocellairs host a plastic anemone before. It is one of those white and blue anemones, and is really soft. They play in it all day, :lol: . But the coral idea is also a good one. Most coral get used to the clown and do good. But sometimes the coral will hate the clown, and the clown will end up killing it . Good luck...

I had the same thing happen with a maroon clown I had. He would host in my bubble coral and end up killing it every 6 months. I finally decided to get rid of the maroon clown and get a couple perculas

My clowns hosted in feather duster when I had them, even though I had corals. The feather duster never seemed to be bothered by them much.

Well, I had a tank crash this past January, so a lot of stuff bought the bullet. But my ocellaris clown did NOT. She is going strong, still hosting in Rhodactis mushrooms. And biting fingers. She ALSO tries to destroy new corals.. Warning there is the downside to Clowns hosting. They will aggressively defend their "anemones" from all threats, including coral frags!

That happens pretty commonly. They often like clams. Large healthy clams can usually tolerate. Small clams with large clowns can be a bad combo.

My clown hosts the sand bed right in the middle of the tank...its annoying cause it kicks up the sand all day long and clouds the tank up. :furious:

my clownfish likes my fake anemones. I think it is funny. The little one also follows the big one everywhere and they sleep in the same fake anemone. I sent a picture in case you guys don't believe me. I am sorry the pictures are sideways. I don't know how to fix that on here. It's not sideways on my computer..

i have an ocellaris that finally after months is hosted by a sebae but i have another black and white saddleback ocellaris that uses a bubble coral as a host. it sorta makes sense i just wish they would pair up in the sebae.. they arent mature enough to know they love each other yet....

I presently have a pair of clown fish that are hosting a yellow soft rubber anenome. What's weird is that this is my second pair that have done so! The first pair went right to hosting it. The second pair were hosting my blue mag float ( I believe they thought it was my regal tang - due to the same blue color.) My regal tang was hanging with the clowns as they were purchased at the same time. The tang died after a month or so. I moved the rubber anenome right next to the blue mag float, within a day or so they started hosting it. I don't think that they would host a hard plastic anenome, and the soft rubber ones are hard to find.

I think that means you have a male and female that are now a pair... Keep an eye out for eggs.
