Will an Emerald Crab kill & eat a cleaner shrimp?

this has nothing to do with that but in your signature it says that you have a 29 gallon tank with 85 LBS OF LR - do you have a pic of this, i'd like to see how that much rock looks in there. is there any water?

Yes, it could eat one, it could also just be a molt. Emeralds are opportunists.

I haven't seen him for 3 days & he is very friendly shrimp. Do they hide when they molt?

Yes, they will hide when they molt. Mine just went through a molt and did not come out for feeding time for two days.

They can also just die during a molt, so even if it is gone, doesn't really mean the crab is guilty. Bummer I love my guys.

I have a sexy shrimp & he is still in the tank. Do I dare get another cleaner shrimp? He was fun to watch.

What makes them die while molting?

shrimp are very vulnerable during molting for them to be out in the open during and shortly after molting would be like you walking out in a paint ball range with just a thin set of cloths on

a shrimp can die during a molt if there is not enogh iodine in the water because iodine helps ''loosen'' the old shell if its not enogh the result would be suffocation

Could he have done it? Well if somebody were to drag a juicy T-bone steak in front you when you havent eaten in 2 days...Would you grab it and eat it?.....well an emerald crab would do no different if the chance should be provided, Emeralds are pretty good for valona control when tiny...but once they get a bit larger, they can pose "issues"...LOL
