Will ATO work without a sump?

Hey im planning a 30 gallon reef and was wondering if ATO will work if you dont have a sump. im looking at the tunze ATO on bulk reef supply.

Yes. I have mine connected to a large tupperware I found that fits in the bottom of my stand. I fill it with RO/DI water. Drilled a little whole in the tupperware lid to fit the tubing and float through.

Just take into account snails that could leave it in the on or off position at the wrong time.

I've been doing a little research on the Tunze ATO, and it seems that it's unlikely a snail could cause it to stay in the on position. Since it uses a electronic eye to monitor the water level, they claim a snail will not interfere.

I personally am leaning towards the tunze. Seems like a very well made product!

Even for some odd reason the Tunze gets stuck in the on. It has a float that will turn it off and it will only run for a certain amount of time. The Tunze is well worth it compared to new flooring.

Avast ATO is just as good for less money and they offer a nano version that is smaller! Don't get stuck in the hype products...

Tunze is great (though expensive). The Avast one looks pretty solid too, and is half the price. I only have personal experience with the Tunze though.

For my 20H, I just use an aqualifter attached to a timer. It works fine for now, but eventually I might switch over to using an ATO from autotopoff.com
