Will epoxy cause a protein skimmer to go bonkers?

And how about reef glue? (cyanoacrylate)

I have some frags I want to mount.

I have never had an issue with my skimmer being impacted due to glue. I've used the puty and the glue and never noticed any change in skimmer performance. This is on 150g net.

Warmest Regards,
James

Epoxy will absolutely make your skimmer go bonkers, especially if it's a two part epoxy. Experienced it last week. Running some carbon and doinga water change speeds the process up but it should eventually go away.

When I used epoxy it did make my skimmer go crazy, but the glue has never done it. Are you attaching the frags to a plug/disk or your rockwork?

Is ordinary epoxy found in hardware stores safe for our tanks?

I've used about every kind of epoxy known to man in my tank. No repercussions so far. I do make sure its some kind of water epoxy though. Honestly though if you go to "Petsmart" not Petco they have the Instant Ocean 4oz epoxy sticks for 6.99 its the best deal anywhere. Normally hardware stores charge around $5-6 for 2oz sticks. You have to make sure you go to Petsmart though. At Petco the same exact epoxy is $14.99, most LFS carry the same thing as well for that price, not sure why Petsmart is substantially cheaper but its been my secret for years. I've seen people use 2part 3m epoxy as well. It comes in tubs and goes a loooong way.

D&D two part epoxy has never made my skimmer overflow (knock on wood). Glue has not either. I also think it depends on the skimmer as well. And what level its set at. Cheap skimmers like the old coralife I had 6 years ago went nuts and never calmed down. I had to dump the thing.

Two part epoxy will make your skimmer go nuts for a while depending how much you use and the volume of your tank. It calms down after a few hours.

The cyanoacrylate doesn't seem to effect anything IME.

Good info thanks

Just snap the tip off with a pair of cutters. Most plugs are easy to do this with. P.S. two part epoxy makes my skimmer nuts and some of my corals respond by sliming. don't know if it's because of the epoxy strength or because the skimmer can't clear it fast enough.

Anybody use a layer of epoxy sandwiched between two layers of cyanoacrylate, then those three layers sandwiched between the frag disk and the rock?

The answer is aquastick.
hold fast is good but it mixes white, boston reefers is my favorite mixes purple.

the Cyano sandwich is the way to go.
