will foam sleeve on skimmer output cause nitrates

Just put the old foam filter sleeve back on my Euroreef skimmer's output--used to eliminate splashing in sump & microbubbles--- and was wondering if it would add any signifigant amount of nitrates to my sps tank-- like a wet/dry? Plan on rinsing it out once a week. I had the gate valve mod on it for the past year but need more room in my sump for other things & the mod takes up too much room. I first tried putting a 2 liter bottle over the output to quiet the splashing in the sump which someone on RC suggested but couldn't make it work. So if nitrates are going to be a problem with the sponge back on does anyone know of another way to quiet the output without the sponge?

In theory it of course would grow some bacteria, but by the same token it would be recieving the most nutrient poor water possible. I would say it would be negligible. And to be honest if the tank is better to enjoy with it, and the corals are happy I wouldn`t care if it did bump a bit.
