Will having nori in my tank all the time effect my water quality

I have a foxfish that loves to constantly nibble on nori so I am putting a rock in the tank with nori tied to it. But as he nips at it there seems to be stuff floating in the tank. Anyone have any experience with this? Will this negatively impact me water quality?

If it's getting eaten quickly then no if it sits in your tank for a hours then yes

I don't have a problem in my tank it usually hits a powerhead and gets shredded then the hermits have a party

like any food that isn't immediately eaten, it's not a problem unless there is a large amount of it.

tanks are set up to handle a certain amount of decomposing matter, our water changes help manage this by exporting nutrients given off by these processes. so whether it is fish waste, or leftover food, things will break down, and as long as you're not putting in too much, or slacking off on your husbandry in other areas, it shouldn't be an issue.

Most likely all the nori that is not eaten by the fox on the rock is getting eaten by the fox or other fish/CUC behind the scenes. As long as you don't see pieces of it laying around untouched then it is being consumed elsewhere.

I found that my reefs seem healthier when I slightly overfeed the tank. -More nutrients floating around for them to pick from.
Of course this was possible once I brought my Nitrates down to zero by using Chaeto, which also seems to thrive.
I think that the key is in the feeding variety and amount consistency, where the system is geared for the stable bio load.
