Will indirectly copper contaminant causing issue in corals ?

Dear All,

I have not been able to raise acros in my Tank even though my water parameter are exactly right , for your references ;

Kh - 7
Ca - 440
Mg - 1350
No3- <0.20
Po4- 0.00 or sometimes at most 0.03 to 0.08
Temp - 27 degree C
Salinity - 1.026

After being suspected by the discussion at Zeovit.com, Alexander suspect toxin, I suddenly recalled I may have using used filters socks may be use in the past with tank having copper dosing due to itch outbreaks in that tanks , not sure if the sock I am using was contaminated or not .

Considering this is the issue, I wonder if my tank also not longer able to raise SPS ? Or can I check with Salifert copper test kits to ruled out this suspect and proceed to keep dosing Zeovit regiment?

What should I do for saving my tank from being SPS graveyard and end of my reefing hobby ?

I am not opted to dismantle the whole system and start from beginning with new tank. Just try to find remedy to removed any copper or toxin contaminant and go ahead with raising nice SPS like you guys do.

Please advise. Thanks !

Cheers,

MD

Pardon me for posting here instead at reef chemistry forum

I wonder if I have to divert to reef chemistry forum but thinking to avoiding double posting and not knowing how to transfer to that said forum so please accept my apology and hope to hear from yours advises of this said issue.

Thanks

you can try seachem CupriSorb, however if it's just the filter socks and you got rid of it i dont think it can cause your tank to have dangerous levels of copper.

Thanks ! That is a great relief to me , I am thinking if I have to change all live rocks , pipes , hoses and even cleaning all glass walls and equipment , which is something like starting from scratch ? I tested the copper test kits of Salifert and it reads zero

Okay, I've been trying to figure out why SPS won't keep in your system since you last posted about Zeovit.

What is your maintenance routine? How do you supplement K, Fe, I, Sr, Br and B elements? Do you maintain some level of N and P?

The lights are borderline limit (156w on a 6 squarefeet tank)
I like to run 50-66watts/sq ft and yours is 26.

I run 2x 120w led at 90% which is 54w/sqft

where are the SPS and how they die?

Hi !

Never I have ever dose those elements you mentioned . While I am dosing Zeovit now , I will start checking K (potassium ) and shall starting dosing potassium Chlorides when level is below normal value.

My no3 is <0.20 ppm and Po4 - 0.02 ppm recently test result.

Hi there!

Never suspect is my lights doing some issue for my corals die off. I don't have PAR checking equipment . But I place my corals on upper level of live rocks.

My SPS start from Stned from base or some from top and then got browimg until covered with algae or coralline algae by then.

Here is some photos of recently acros that was put in my tank 3 weeks from now ;

Also looks like water issue. How are you dosing alk and cal? have you try testing multiple time a day to see how much alk swings?

I use Geo 618 calcium reactor .kh at 7 and ca at 440 ppm , mg - 1350.

I test once a week or sometimes 2 times a week and it is steadily that level.

What about water changes? I'd look into KZ B-balance, KZ K-Balance for now, too.

Will indirectly copper contaminant causing issue in corals ?

I have an auto water changes system and initially set at 5 liters per day of water change and since I started Zeovit regimen , today is the 6th day of my dosing. As per the advise of fellow RC member and also my countryman , Elton and Joseph whom been helpful in guiding me , I start with 4 drops zeobak , 0.8 ml of zeo start 3 and 4 drops of Sponge power . I have 1 liters of zeolites tuning thru my old NR-1 reactor convert, although Zeovit reactor is not something expensive but I try to avoid buying more reactors as I already have bunch of reactors in my cabinet that is taking so much of spaces .

For your references , my DIY Zeovit reactor ;

The convert Zeovit reactor pumps has to run this way :

As you can see my sump is no more spaces ;

Shall I dose KZ - B and K balance too ?
