will puffers, and triggers kill crabs, and snails?

i plan on having a dogface puffer, and a picaso trigger, but i was thinking about getting some kind of crab. is this a bad idea?

also i have a 55 gallon tank i just set up, fowlr. i have a wet/dry filter. and a 9w uv sterilizer. how long can i get by without a skimmer, and what would be the least expensive, but effective way to go, and where should i get it. lfs, or online.

Ok Yes. Like stated above that is the main thing these fish eat. Puffers need the shells of inverts and some coral your wear their teeth down.

Actually crustacians are good to control the puffers teeth/beak. Without them his teeth will cause many of problems.
