Will tank raise percula clowns host?

Hello.

I bought a small pair of TANK RAISED percula clowns the other day.

Will the eventually host a RBTA?

Dunno if nature kicks in, being that they are tank raised Perculas.

Thanks

Nature will kick in -- tank raised or not. Hosting is an instinct, and not a learned behavior.

However, it might take longer since you have an RBTA, which isn't a natural host for them. (( in this case, the time frame would most likely be the same b/t TR and WC )).

A while ago I took care of a pair of wild Onyx perculas and I introduced 3 large BTA I had grown out of another tank and it took them several months to take to the anemone. It isn't a natural host for these clowns but give them time. I have heard it taking a year and even longer.

I bought 2 baby picassos that were tank raised from the lady that raised them. Within a day, they hosted a torch coral for a week. Then I bought them a GBTA. They've not given the torch a second thought. They jumped right in the bubble and are reluctant to leave

I've got a mated pair ofOscellaris that have hosted a PVC return for my closed loop that is in the back of the tank. I recently added a RBTA last weekend and the clowns have ot given in notice. Would it encourage them to host if I put something foreign where they are currently hosting to get them to "shop around." i.e. a net

-sorry for the highjack thought it would be of mutual interest.

yes they will....my false percs took a month or so to goto the RBTA i had, i eventually sold the RBTA, and the clowns....

my false percs have been a good 4 months of non hosting to the GBTA...i really want a mag but dont have the room for one right now...

My O's never would host until I added a percula. The percula went right into my rbta for shelter. After a day they chased the percula out. They wouldnt use the rbta's for 6mos that I had them until they saw and copied the percula.Instinct was weak with the onyx O's.

A lot of it depends on the anemone but yes they will host. Try to get a natural host. Also I have seen breeders use those squishy balls with tentacles or spikes on them and they cut them and TR clowns even host in them.

The problem with getting a natural host for Percs are the poor track records of them.

Mags -- very poor shippers, hard to keep, very demanding....
Gigs --- similar to above, perhaps slightly less demanding, but still difficult to keep.
Mertensii --- pretty difficult to find, think I know of one person that has one.
Crispa/sebea --- most that are for sale are very bleached and don't make it. If a healthy one is found, they get very very large.
