Will these mods work for my skimmer?

I have an Octopus NW 110, i've read the mod thread but couldnt find out if any of these would work on my skimmer...

1. Mesh Mod
2. Gate Valve
3. Elbow Mod
4. Gasket Mod
5. Venturi Airline Mod

Could someone tell me why I shouldn't do any of these mods? and if i wanted to upgrade my Needle Wheel pump, what is the largest and most efficient that I should run?
