WILLIAM2'S 180 gallon reef tank adventure..

So Im new to this site, from the Atlanta Reef Club.

My name is Will and this is my reef excursion.

I have always been interested in reef tanks ever since I was a young boy, seeing them in doctor offices, ect. The colors were beyond the eyes imagination as if each piece was a delectable piece of candy.

With that said I was hooked on getting a saltwater tank setup. About 2 1/2 years ago my wife suprised me with a 90 gallon tank that I would soon feel overwhelmed with the idea of plumbing, ect.

After about 6 months and a ton of mistakes it was now running and at least keeping fish alive. I threw money away purchasing low end equipment and pc lights for a while until I moved the tank 950 miles from Wisconsin to Atlanta.

After meeting a member of the Atlanta Reef Club I became very informed on there website with all the awsners I needed, and a great group of people always willing to lend a hand.
Within a year of moving I sold the 90 and upgraded.

180 gallon reef tank fromhttp://www.oceallc.com/ and with the 55 gallon sump and equipment I reacheced 250 gallon super fast.

So the tank I ordered is 180 gallon all glass reef ready tank with dual corner overflows and closed loop returns with bulkheads. 72"x24"x24"..... I mapped out the area in the stand to make sure everything would fit. I have always had this problem with never enough room in the stand for everything I have or plan on getting.

So I decided to make the Ultimate stand 75"x27"x40" this should be able to house a small army LOL. Hopefully there will be a frag tank underneath with the sump and everything else. Plus no more bending over to check out the tank this was the entire purpose for the tall stand. Im going to add some pictures of the process.

I finished the frame of the stand . After I had all the sides and trim on this was starting to come. Just look how massive this stand is. I used some ideas from other members and there beautiful stands WOW hopefully mine will be just as nice.

Soon I will put on a supply list of what I all have and what im going to upgrade soon as the tank is all done. and some more pics.

The owner of Oceallc (TY) was a great person to work with always keeping in contact with me until it was done. Delivery came and went and soon the new reef tank was set up and running.

Ok so theres the equipment that makes it all run.
Ill make a list here so its a bit easier to read.
Equipment:

180 gallon reef ready tank from http://www.oceallc.com/

55 gallon sump/refugium

MRC-2 dual beckett skimmer with waste collection container http://www.myreefcreations.com/

8 T5's (this will be upgraded soon and be overdriven by Ice cap 660's

Knop calcium reactor/ milwaukee P.H. regulater (funny Im from Milwaukee) This will be upgraded soon to a MRC calcium reactor

Tunze powerheads/ and koralia's

closed loop system on a mag24

Pacific Coast chiller

Phosban reactor with carbon

Ozone+dryer

And a few other things that I will get to later. But now on to the best part pics. Now mind you I have only built a small stand for a cube I used to store everything while I did the upgrade. This is also the second time Ive ever done trim work hhhhmmmmm.

Ok here are some of the fun pictures coming THE TANK hand delivered right to my doorstep for free might I add due to some delay in the tank being made.

Ok so there we go tank was delivered and I needed to start plumbing and building overflows ect......

First I painted the back of the tank with a latex paint flat black. Then I built my gugle buster drains.
closed loop ect...

I did use 2" drains and 1 1/2" returns. I did the drains a little larger for thinking it might reduce some suction noise that might happen. But with the gurgle buster theres no noise at all. These were the easiest things to make each one took about 15 min. Heres the link to that in case someone wants it. http://home.everestkc.net/jrobertson57268/HGB/HGB_construction.html

Thanks Neoz. It came along pretty fast considering Im not a builder. Im going to start the canopy in the next couple of weeks and redoing my lighting.

Thanks Map69 I really wanted the stand to have enough room for any upgrades including a bigger tank. It ended up being 83x36x44. So its a monster. I cant wait until the canopy is done.

setup looks real nice dude
