Wilsoni Coral?

Looks like an acan mixed with a lobo on steroids!! Where'd you see that thing??

S. wilsoni is actually a temperate water coral (South/Southwest coasts of Australia); I doubt its likely to do well long term at 'normal' reef temps. More likely to be found on rocky outcroppings than on a sandbed or dense reef. Otherwise, care for just as you would most any other Symphyllia.

I posted a pick of mine a month or so back asking for an i.d. on it and everyone's opinion was a lobo or symphillia. That is exactly what i have only smaller. I picked it up at a lfs for $69.

Post a pick again, interested in seeing how its doing since then? Any special care requirements or has care for it a no brainer? Wonder how fraggable it is?

Hey Limestro...I will look for it again. It was green when i bought it and keeping it under 250 watt 20k it turned red with hot pink centers. It got stung by a chalice awhile back and it has recovered nicely so it seems pretty tough so far.

Glad to hear its a fighter. Hopefully I can keep an eye out for these bad boys and get a hold of one for myself. I think I do remember seeing that thread before, but I can't remember if I posted on it. If you have any recent pictures, pls do share. I would be interesting to see the differences between the before and after.

So far they've been easy to care for in our system, we keep it a little cooler than most reefs @ 74 degrees

No problems in the 8 months they have been acclimating =)

Have you fragged them yet? If so, whats the ease of fragging?

I would not recommend fragging them, the frags may last for a while but my experience with these types of corals is that they do not heal well after fragging

That being said I don't think these will be the next pyramid scheme coral, these will make nice additions to a true collector's tank. Also they are only found in AU so once AU closes the people who got one will be stoked =)

While not as colorful, its blood red with purple mouth... however, unless its eating the purple remains a thin line on the oral opening crest...

I've had mine for over three years. This is an old pic. Great coral and like Jen said, I would never consider fragging these.
