Windshield repair kit for chip repair

Has anyone done this before? I saw a few youtube vidoes where they use a windshield repair kit to fix a small chip in the glass.

Its a very small chip right in the center. The tank is not set up yet so I can set it outside to cure in the light as the instructions indicate.

I'm just concerned that whatever the compound used for this might be toxic to the fish/corals.

Its not toxic once cured..
Its not a structural repair only visual..

I had heard that even those little chips, while not immediately damaging to the tank could eventually lead to a spider type crack down the road which was the only reason I was going to do it. Since the tank isn't set up I'm just going to spin the tank around and put it toward the back.

Do you think the spidering thing is a bunch of crap? The kit cost 10$ so I'll return that if that's the case lol.

Spidering or crack propagation over time is absolutely possible..
I do not believe though that the kits prevent that hence that its only a visual repair..
It will help hide the issue but doesn't do anything to prevent it spreading further IMO..

I did it once on a chip that was located on the top of a rimless tank. It was better than nothing but not up to pro standards. The stuff is not real easy to work with but if it is on the back you won't see it anyway. As far as stopping any more cracks...who knows but it can't hurt for $10.

If I decide to do this, do you think that my ReefBreeder LED's would produce enough UV to cure it? I've read they do produce some but very small amounts. I live in Minnesota so its like the tundra outside right now, not sure if I want to risk tanking the tank out into the feet of snow and ice out there to cure.

Lived in Mpls for over 30 years so I feel your pain. I don't think the RB have hardly any UV spectrum. I picked up a black light from Lowe's.

Reef LED lights will likely not work as a suitable UV curing replacement..
