Wireless Vortech

Who all uses the vortech pump? I am thinking about getting one and would like to hear if everyone that has one likes it or not.

It it as loud as some have said it is? Is that the only powerhead you have in your tank? Does it run hot?

I have 2. You can hear it sometimes but it isn't bad. The best thing is how small it is. But full blast, I can't keep my sand in the front to stay put. It pushes it away. It is so powerful that it actually pulls particles off the sand a full 18" directly below it and blows it out.

I love mine I have it in a 55g and will be able to use it in the future on a bigger tank for sure. Its really quiet (the sound of my overflow is the only thing I hear when I watch tv downstairs where the tank is)

And the whole "wireless" thing means that all of the electronics stuff is on the outside of the tank and the propeller inside is driven magnetically through the glass so there's *very little* if at all heat going into the tank from this. The outside bit also doesn't get very hot, you can still touch it its just warm.

Very awesome pump definitely worth the $$

I have two on my 215. The nice thing about two is that they link up and run as wavemaker, although I think one will be more than enough on your tank. I have obnoxious flow in my tank with just a Dart pump split into two returns and the two Vortech's. My sand it pure white all the time and my rock is staying really clean. You can just see them on the back of the tank in this pic:

And here's a video of the flow in my tank...sorry, it's a bit blue but the video on my camera doesn't have a white balance adjustment. You can get an idea of the sound...but keep in mind this was before any of the doors were on the cabinet. I really don't hear them at all with the cabinet doors on now.

Yes...It works great. I have it at 100% on pulse mode. I think I might need to get one more to get the flow that I want. With the one I still have dead spots on the side it is on.

Pulse is the last setting. They have 4 total...constant, Lagoon, reef crest, and pulse. It is the setting when the light turns blue. If you have more than one...it is the setting that you can create waves. Maybe I will try a couple different setting tonight and see if they are a little better.

We have 2 Vortecs, one on each end of the tank. Ours isn't a wireless unit. It's definitely worth having the battery backup unit as we have occasional power outages. Wish we would have had it a week sooner, after loosing a prized $100 fish plus about 3 others due to just such an event last year.
