Woke up to my breeding female on floor

They started breeding about a month ago. Last batch hatched last night, probably was defending them and it cost her life. I raised her since a juvenile 4 years ago. What happens to my male? Can I get another female? They've been together since 08.
I am waiting for my new glass lid. My old one cracked so I took it off as a safety precaution. My new one ready in 2 days.

She was such a beauty

Man, sorry to hear that :(. If you are able to find a female in short order, the male will stay a male and will have to submit to his new partner after introduction. Otherwise you can let the male be for a while and it will become female and then you can add a small juvenile to become its mate. Not sure how to define " a while" but he will start to put on size after he changes. I suppose you could also add a small juvenile now and they will bicker back and forth until one becomes the dominant female (assume that would be your larger current male). Either way you go. your best bet is to add a smaller juvenile clown.

Sorry for your loss. I'd strongly recommend putting some type of 1/4 inch netting on top of your tank so you don't lose anything else. Good luck

Thanks. My new custom glass cover will be ready tomorrow. I hope my male doesn't have a nervous breakdown like Marlin in Nemo.

Ouch. I had the same thing a while ago. It is heart breaking. You should decide soon either to get a large female or allow the male to them female and add a juvi. The male will start to turn female within 2 weeks or so. Once he starts turning there is no turning back.

Keep a VERY close eye on the temps. A glass cover and raise temps drastically (and by drastically I mean 5-10 degrees). Mesh/nets are typically a much better solution for heat management.

I had 2 sections added for the cover leaving an 8"x27" opening under the MH, also my sump is in the basement (100 gal stock tub that's wide open) I'm hoping that keeps the temps down.

i had a female jump once. I waited 2 months before i got another clown. The new one was smaller. But the older, bigger one wanted to stay a male and now the new one is twice his size and is female.

I acclimated a new clown today. As soon as the new one found my male, they have been playing in the host frogspawn and seem to like each other.

Sorry to hear about your clown jumping. However, it seems like you have another beautiful one to replace her.

Aw man that's tough ...:( sorry to hear.

If you want to get a female you could order a large clownfish online or you may be lucky enough to find one at you lfs.

My custom made glass cover for my cube was finished today. I put it on and it's perfect (2 sections). Pics later if you're interested. Clowns doing fine so far.

I'll have a better idea of temp change soon. I did leave a section under the MH open so I can incorporate a mesh. What kind of mesh would be best?

I guess I don't understand what type of partial protection you've attempted. While you might have some protection on the edges (I assume that's where you put it), the fish can just as easily jump in the middle, onto the glass, and onto the floor again.

I will try to find it, but there is a long thread here about 1/4" mesh along with a screen frame.

This post is about my clownfish and if if helps save one of our little buddies then it's worth it. When this happened, there was no cover on the tank because the one that came with the tank cracked and glass fell into the tank. Needless to say, I was lidless for a month, I tried plexiglass but it bowed and was a mess.

Ideas for meshing the rest while keeling a classy look?

Some net would be good over opening but gets too hot for glass so I left it open. it should cut down evap a little, here is the sump

BRS (bulk reef supply) sells screening that the holes are 1/4". all you would need is to get a screen kit at a hardware store and make it the size you want. i have a screen over the top of my solana with no glass top.
