Wondering If I Could Get a Clam

Hello All,

I have a 120 gallon(4x2x2) tank with Aquaticlife 6-bulb light fixture with ATI bulbs (4 Blue+, 1 Coral+, and 1 Purple+). I am interest in a Tridacna Derasa Clam. I have read that clams need bright light, but the Derasa species can deal with a little less light. The majority is LPS and 3 monti's(SPS) in my tank, so my water is a little dirty. So could I get a with the Derasa Clam with the current lights I have, knowing they like the sandbed a little better. I don't no the PAR measurements in my tank, as I just move the corals around until they are happy.

You should be okay with that light. When you pick a clam, make sure it is extended and reactive - it should close up a little when you pass your hand over the light and shadow it.

ok. thank you. Almost forgot, I do have a CUC that only consist of dwarf hermit crabs and snails. Will they be a issue?

hermits and snails shouldn't be an issue, try and get one at least 2.5 to 3 inches, sometimes the smaller ones are a bit more difficult to get to adapt to your tank.

Melanurus Wrasse and Foxface are in the tank now. In QT, I have Flame Hawkfish, Clownfish, and Cherub Dwarf Angel. Future list will be Chocolate Tang and Kole Tang. I know that the Dwarf Angel can be 50/50 with nipping at clams and corals, so I am willing to gamble a little.

I could be wrong but foxface can be prone at times to nip on polyps and lps, i don't think it would be a stretch to him attempting to nibble on a clam mantle.

oh ok, mostly read they are pretty modern citizens. I will start paying attention to him.

angel for sure is a potential killer of clam

yep, that's my really only concern. The clam will go in before the Angel. According to my research, the Cherub and the Coral Angels, you have better odds of angels of them not nipping.
