Wood face frames for steel stand?

I'm working on getting my 220 back up and running. I have a steel stand I need to skin. Not sure if I want to do face frames/doors or just removable panels. Anyone here good with wood and interested?

Thanks! Ian

multiple wood panels are easy to do and can look good....
you can have HD cut 1/2" ply (birch or similar) to desired size. get colored stain and apply it yourself. Use magnets or Velcro to hold in place. depending on your house décor, you can add trim/knobs/handles to match.

I did removable wood panels on mine using 1x poplar boards. Was my first actual wood project and it turned out decent. Only special tools were a router and kreg jig.

Best part is if I get tired of it the panels are only held on by magnets so I can ditch them and do another route.

I think the removable panels make access a big +. Like Thewbell said above...a Kreg jig will make easy work joining ends and you can do pretty much any color to match your home decor. Poplar has some cool wood grain and takes stain very well. Minwax has a lot of different colors and they also have their newer gel stains that work really well.

You have the two raised panels are held by magnets. How about the wood behind it? How did you attach that?

Thanks! I have a steel stand that needs to a wood face.

The panels are held by magnets then I have cabinet doors on hinges. I can either open the doors for small jobs or pull the entire panel off like this.

I've done several projects for local reefers. I sent you a pm with my contact info. Feel free to give me a call and we can discuss what you are looking for.

Where did you find magnets to hold the weight of the panels? I love this. It something I can do on my own. My husband wanted me to do a carpentry project with him. He does a great job but he would stress me out on a project like that. :lolspin:
