Wood

I wouldn't use treated either. All covered in chemicals and whatnot... You're going to paint (or stain and seal) it, right?

I agree with everyone else. Not necessary because it won't be getting constantly wet, contains chemicals you don't need, and those chemicals will eat up all of your fasteners that aren't hot-dipped galvanized. Plus, it's ugly. :)

Hey devocean should I use 1/4 plywood or the 1/2 ply to skin the stand

To skin a stand build out of 2x4 and 2x6 you can go as thin as you want. The pine supports all the weight, it gets very little support from the plywood skin, the skin is only for decoration. you can easily skin in 1/4" veneer without any issues.

1/4" has a tendency to flex or warp.

I based my decision on durability not structural support. Good point, it does warp too. If you're staining the stand, you would want to sand it down. The veneer on 1/4" is tiny and brittle. Honestly I couldn't find any decent wood and ended up using 3/4" A/C pine.

NO!

If your stand is wet enough to need the rot resistance of PT, you have more problems than the stand being wet!

+100!

The chemicals in treated wood are toxic. It's actually recommended for people to wear a mask when sawing the wood - do you really want that around your fish?

Another reason not to use treated wood - it's all very wet and will tend to shrink & warp more as it dries.
