WooHoo - Maroons finally laid eggs!

Thought I would share my good news. After purchasing a mated pair of GSMs from a local reefer (Thanks Armando!!) and having them sit in my tank and eat food but nothing more for almost 6 months they have FINALLY laid a clutch of eggs! I used a few techniques from Wilkerson such as, consecutive feedings of baby brine shrimp to simulate a plankton bloom, adjusted the photo period down to roughly 8 hrs for a week and then back to the 12 hrs and I dosed a little iodine. I also recently added a BTA that I am actively propagating to sell and they were instantly hosting in it.

I am probably going to let this batch pass, we'll see if it looks as if it is developing properly, I have someone who wants to try as i am going to be out of town mostly over the next month and won't have time to try. Back in the breeding game. Lucky for me I still have the phyto and rotifer cultures going strong. I also have someone interested in giving me as many Ocellaris eggs as I can raise so I am probably going to do that in a little while. The dang job of all times is keeping me away from home the next month and then everything will be back in full swing! :bum:

As for the recent stint on the Green Chromis eggs - all was going well and I had a bunch of larva actively feeding on rotifers and go figure, the cheap, 50W glass heater that i have had for ages and used on many tanks decides to blow apart in the bucket that I had the fry in and all are now gone :(

Take care all, I will try to take some pics tomorrow and post them.

Congratulations!!!

Even though you are letting this one pass, you might take careful notes on the time of hatch and size so you are ready for the next one!
