Word to the wise

I have had a ro/di under my kitchen sink for many years. The compression fitting from the main water line went bad while on vacation. A slow drip went a LONG WAY. There were no outward signs of damage and we didn't notice it for a few days. My wife noticed the board under the sink was caved in along with the 3 cabinets on the side. I am dealing with possible (most likely) mold, drywall, cabinets and granite removal. It's looking to be at least 5k worth of damage. I have home owners insurance so I will be out a grand and all the time and hassle. Needless to say I am getting cheap water alarms to go under all my sinks as I see how badly a little water in the wrong place can cause huge problems. I just wanted to share my trouble and maybe save someone else a similar nightmare.

My In-law's fridge water line busted while on a 3 day getaway and flooded the entire house. The whole house was recarpeted and new furniture replaced, but definitely not worth the headache.
