Working on a clam book and need your help

I had them under 440 watts of VHO and about 80 watts of NO in a 90 gallon tank. Both placed on the sandbed. Probably about 18 inches from the lights. Just recently(the last couple months) I added another 440 watts of VHO(removed the NO). Bulb combination was 1 10K, 2 50/50 bulbs and 1 Super actinic.

c- he was/is around the same size as he is now, lg. crocea...about 5 inches...never really measured...but could. He's a whole lot happier now that he is on rock, about to make a tank move and could snap some photos...

Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢d also like to hear about the lowest light youââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ve successfully kept a tridacnid under. By successfully, I mean it didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t die after a few weeks or months, and showed at least a little new shell growth, too. How far were the bulbs from the clam, how far over the tank, how many bulbs, etc. Also, Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢d need the details about the clam, like the species and the size when you got it.

I have had a Derasa in a 30 gallon for a year and a half under 192 watts of power compacts. I have a 36" Coralife Lunar Aqualight. It contains one 96 watt 10k day light, and one 96 watt actinic 03. I bought him when he was 3". He is now 5 1/2". He is 8" from the lights. I suppliment DT's phytoplankton and oyster eggs 3X a week, this is mainly for the other corals. I do not target/spot feed the clam. I also maintain Ca. at 410 ppm.

i've always wondered if the burrowing issue was more the rock growing up around the clam than it activly burrowing in.

i had a small corcea in a ~3gallon cube several years ago with 4x9w PCs over it. did fine for 8 months, then i tore it down because it was too hard keeping coralline off the sides since the tank had just a very small access hole at the top to reach in through.

Crocea thumb nail size

Crocea thumb nail size

I purchased a Crocea the size of a thumb nail, it was the width of a small marble. Yes it did bore into the live rock I had placed it on.
I also had a small 1 inch maxima bore into live rock.

Hopefully it will be on the shelves this summer. The writing is done. Now it's in the process of being "pre-press" prepared, then printing and delivery...

i have a 3" tridacna that has been kept for nearly a year in my 10g under a 28w pc. it extends its mantle so far that i sometimes think it'll jump out of its shell! no gaping. it has grown about .5 inches. i dose my tank with DT's, and just started on oyster eggs, but i dont spot feed the clam.

btw i have had the clam on the sand, on top of the rocks, and in the middle, pretty much the same results everywhere in the tank.

It appear to be reaching for more light. ;)

i agree, its hyper-extending to get more light

think of it this way... I have never seen a healthy clam under halides do that... something must be going on

ok, but if so many other factors are saying its healthy and one is saying that it may be reaching out for more light, than why should i jump to saying that its unhealthy? check this article out, and tell me where in that article it would indicate i have an unhealthy clam, in fact, it says the mantle should extend well over the shell. http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/cav1i3/Clam_care/Clam_care.htm
i am not being smart, if i am wrong and my clam is unhealthy i want to know, but i am not going to be convinced as easily as some are on this web-site, i have done something that most people wouldnt because i decided to take a risk, and so many people on this site are scared to do that, but by never taking a chance they can only ever learn by what others tell them, and thats just not for me.
