Worm thing in Clam Shell

I have a squamosa clam for a couple of weeks now and he is opening up every day and looks happy. I really like him and I think I spend more time staring at him than anything else. However, there are these 2 worm creatures living in the shell. They make a hard tube off of the shell and then worm sends out a mucus net of some sort and that is how I am guessing it is feeding. The worms are really not bothering anything that I can tell other than their little feeding habit is pretty nasty. I have tried to grab the worms and break them off but they seem to go pretty far back into the shell so that is hopeless.

Has anybody seen something like this and any suggestions on getting rid of them. What about sticking something in thier hole and starving the worm?

Also do you think the worm is actually going through the shell to the interior of the clam and if so what would happen if the worm died in there, will that hurt the clam?

Thanks for any help.

vermatid snails? (dunno if I spelled it right)

Should be harmless. I don't think they burrow into anything.

I have one as well. I have many on rock work but this one is that has to go ruins the view. I just got my clam and thought of killing the worm but I fear of stressing the clam. Newbie clam sydrome:rolleyes:

I spot clean my tank to remove the vermatids every so often... just take the clam out of the water, dry off the end of the vermatid tube and cover with gel superglue. You'll have a white spot on the shell from the glue, but it's not as distracting as the nets they throw out.
