hello folks..

i hope everyones having fun with their tank...

im kind of having some trouble lately with worms... im seeing them all over and am getting nervous on what they are...

heres a picture i found on the internet that looks like the ones I have...

they come out once i drop some food in and seem to be harmless but you never know... i asked ray at coral connections and he says its normal... but i just wanted to double check... anyone have any idea???

Bristle Worms

Unless they are HUGE, you should have no issues with them. Also, be careful when picking up rocks as they tend to hang out on the bottoms of them.

As Corey said bristle worms, great detritovores. One species out of about 1000 species of polyceates is a coralavore and that one the carabean fire worm could be a problem the rest of the 999 or so species are basicly benificial to your tank. Bristle worms use to be my friends but over the past 2 years or so I have developed an alergic reaction to the little sting from their bristles and now have 3 day reactions to them, sometimes making it hard to close my fingers. If your not alergic to them they are very benificial to a tank.

Thanks for the help guys... I think I will keep them in for a while but will get rid of them if they seem to over grow the tank...

Oh and by the way...

I heard yesterday that the Wrasse would eat them... is this true? I think the worms started to come out after I took my Wrasse out...

Any ideas/thoughts?

Hello Folks,

Yesterday, after I fed the fish and coral, I found out that in the back of the tank there has been some overgrowing going on.

I had to take some pictures and show you...

They use to make a trap for them. I have had issues with them in the past. I have found them in fleshy corals .

Not totally but atleast reduce them. Some wrasses eat them, some triggers, and some butterflies. However most of them also eat or nip on corals. A petstore or online should have a little green trap about the thickness of a marker. You bait it with krill and they crawl in and cant get out. Change the trap every couple of days. You can also get a pair of tweezers and pull them out.

Those guys are good for a tank of a fuge, as long as your not alergic to their bristles they are bennificial to have. They eat the garbage that collects around the rocks, and they eat dead and decaying fish and coral bofore it gets too much of a chance to polute your water. Sometimes they get a little ahead of themselves and start cleaning up the left over food before the fish have finished eating but they don't bother healthy live coral tissue.
