Would a coral beauty and flame angel get along?

A friend is moving and can't take his fish with him so he is giving them away. I have a flame angel in a 75 gal with alot of nooks and crannys. Could his coral beauty and my flame get along?

Technically, they're not supposed to get along, because they have very similar morphology...body shape and size. They may or may not fight in a 75. I'd think a 55 would only up the stress. Experience varies.

Yeah, the only way I would try it is if you added them at the same time. Make sure that they are the same size. Im sure they would scuffle every now and again, but I doubt it would be anything serious but I guess there is a chance of it. More than likely its hit or miss.

there isnt really a black and white answer to this. they probly wont, but thats not to say that there isnt a chance of it happening. i personally wouldnt try it in less than a 125 or so. but it MAY work in a 75g. i def wouldnt in a 55g.

my opinion is that i wouldnt do it... but thats me

I had both in my 90 gal and the Flame (added second) beat the CB so long that it eventually wedged itself in a piece of rock and died.

It certainly is hit or miss, but even in my 90 gal which has a bit more space than a 55 or 75 tank.

I'd say it's risky to try.

This is speculation, but I think possibly to the fish they also have similar color patterns. That is going to vary from coral beauty to coral beauty though. (Vertical lines)

I have a flame & a CB in my 100g. They were added at the same time - the flame picks on the CB but there is no nipping.

If you decide to do this at least float a bag with the CB for a while & watch the flame's reaction. If he shows anthing other than initial interest in the CB, I would not put him in.

Also I just noticed your talking about a 55g - I think for this to work you'd have to get lucky.

If you are very dedicated to doing it, you could try partitioning off your tank into 2 halves with eggcrate & put one one each side for a month or so & see if you can get them used to each other.

HTH :)
